Mandarin ok with a clam?

I'm thinking about keeping a few teardrop clams and a Mandarin as my main tank showpieces. Anyone have an opinion on this?

I figure maybe the Mandarin might nip at the clam, thinking it is pods? But the fish is such a fussy eater as it is...

Any hoot. What do you think?

(also, is a neon goby clam-safe?)

Do you have anything to back that up? Other than your two thousand some odd posts.

I just want to make sure everything is ok before I invest my arms & legs into a nice clam.

Why can't there be more peaceful tank mates?

im pretty sure mbbuna knows what he is talking about.... IMO, i would have no doubts about what he said.... this dude is freakin insanely smart....

Oh no doubt. I just figured there may have been something that encouraged him to say that. Maybe keeping one without problem, or having read stories about it.

None the less things are looking promising ;)

I keep six clams with a scooter dragonet, same genus different species from the Mandarine but the same diet, and it have never ever bothered my clams. 100% reef safe. (except for the poor pods)

I've got a psychedelic mandarin, T. Derasa and a T. Crocea. The mandarin pays no attention whatsoever to the clams. The clam mantles don't resemble copepods at all. No issues as mbbuna states.

a high post count only means i have too much free time:D

Manderins are about the most peaceful fish i can think of. they will spend all there time cruising the rocks for pods. Ive never heard of them picking at clams. i have one in my 180, i used to have it with the clams but the wrasse in that tank was not happy about it and almost killed it

thanks but if i didnt have spell check you might thing otherwise:lol:

Awesome. Can't wait to select a clam :)

Any ideas? I like the look of the teardrop clams. Don't like brown clams... and I enjoy funny looking things ;)

72 gallon AGA bow with 2x250w 14k Pheonix HQIs in ROIII pendants on a M80 HQI ballast about 8" over the water, but it could be closer.

I had planned to keep 2 clams, each directly under a pendant.

There might be some actinic supplementation later on but I'm not sure just yet.

I've clams in both of my tanks. In one I have both physadilic and spotted mandrins. In the other I have scooter blenies. None of which have even looked twice at my clams other than an occasional resting spot. ;)

i think you would be fine with any clam. the 72's are tall right? i'd place a Crocea or Maxima up higher
