so last when i went to look at my tank before the led lights turned on all my fish were peacefully swimming around. the led went on and i left for a good 5 minutes to comeback to my mandarin swimming out front from behind the rocks very quickly his back fin was torn up and he had a tear in his side... seemed to m like his slim coat was coming off and could barely breathe.....

what could this be ? i thought it might have been my pistol shrimp, because i heard they snap there one claw and it can kill things in close range

You didn't list what fish you have in your tank... or anything else. It could be multiple things.

Your other posts seem to indicate you are still in the process of putting your system together. Is this a newly established tank?

yes mandarins are a bad idea for a newly setup tank. the usual wait time to add a mandarin is said to be from 9 months to almost a year. i waited about 9 months, but even with a full fuge of pods i still dose feed every two weeks. and needless to say my mandarin is very fat and happy.
