what lighting do you have on the mangroves?

150w 6700k and i use florida mud from a guy on ebay vendor name bamboo-dynasty

how long did it take your mangroves to sprout leaves?

Thats cool. that will look awesome once they really start to leaf up. i have 4 mangroves and they are growing roots but shrinking and turning to little brown sticks up top.
and is this mudbed pretty much like a refugium or something?

it is, its run inline with my 55 sump for my 140g display. its my first shot at a mud bed. i hope it works, and as for grass its shoal, manatee, and turtle.

wow that looks amazing, ive been wanting to plant some in a display tank, i have one in my sump with a 6700k bulb that is growing great but if i put one in the DT then would it need a light source to grow?

Thats awesome im going to have to do some research on mud beds. ive never heard of em before.

depends on how your dt lighting is mounted. if its in a hood im not sure how it would work, if it was a pendent maybe you could do it. i designed my 20 for them with a hung fixture that i can adjust up as they grow.

Hey guys Ive got 12 mangroves and I run most of them in my freshwater setup. If you pust them in freshwater with weekly water changes you'll get the growth your wanting out of them. Mangroves in the wild grow at a good rate becuase they have the best wild nutriants but we don't offer what they need in captivity. They need spays of freshwater and then they will shed the salt water leaves.. People who know what I am talking about then I won't have to explain anymore. For those who don't know mangroves absorbe moisture through their roots all times of the day. The yellowish leaves that fall from them are the salt leaves that are considered useless and disposable.

i spray my leaves with freshwater often.

havent trimmed mine, the nutrients will come from the mud bed when the roots hit the mud.

dont know, they are making pretty good progress. maybe a month or 2
