Mangroves

I have been researching recently and came across mangroves.. I don't know much about them just that they are suppose to take the place of the skimmer and reduce nitrates in your tank.. I am wondering if anyone has actually been successful with Mangroves or if anyone can give me more information??

Mangroves remove very little nutrients compared to macro algae like chaeto, but even still w/ macro that does not mean by any means it will replace a skimmer.
They do look cool in a fuge though, just keep SW off leaves, squirt bottle w/ fresh clean water a few times a week is best.

mangroves will aid in nutrient export but it does this slowly and you would need a whole bunch of them. Better off with a Chaeto fuge or a algae scrubber. And none of these will replace a good skimmer in my experience.

I think they look cool and i often think of putting in an inline tank at the window and use it to grow mangroves. However, i would still run a skimmer AND chaeto. Unless you have a bunch of them, i don't think they could beat out the export potential of chaeto. Skimming in my opinion pulls out a whole different class of "junk".
