Mangroves

Why my mangroves keep dying, I live in south Florida, and have their roots halfway in saltwater, tried ting them to rocks, etc. sprayed them with fresh water daily, no mater what I do they dint seem to grow :( most of them die.

Hmmm....If the roots came from muck or from a "Mother" on muck or soil, that maybe the problem. Might sound a little weird, but if you can collect muck (or has FL banned that too?), super glue some rubble to a plastic pot and then pot it up, it may do better. Lot more nutrients in muck (oh, how I miss that panicky feeling of getting stuck near a mangrove - I now live in Phoenix).

Were they growing in saltwater before you stuck them in your tank? I bought some on Ebay and they were growing them in freshwater. I had to acclimate them over about a month to keep them from dying. This is one of the biggest causes for new mangrove death

I once took a mangrove from Oleta River State park here in Miami Beach, the mangroves over there are all growing in saltwater. I keep the roots buried in miracle mud and i threw a rock on them to keep it more stable and it has been growing allot!
