mantis hiding

I got a mantis about a week ago and I have not seen him once. I'm not sure what species it is but he is a smasher darker in color. How long will it hide for? Do I not have the proper setup for it? He is in a 26 gal bowfront with two large pieces of liverock and I will be putting some sand in today. I have a mj 1200 for filtration and movement. Is there too much movement for him? Any help appreciated.

they usualy hide for the first 3 weeks.

older thread, i know. I was wondering if someone knew why they hide. I too have had one for over a week and have not seen him. He/she is small, maybe 2cm. Is he molting??Rearranging furniture?? Just curious. Thanks.

Also the more place they have to hide the less they do. I had a mantis hitch-hike into my display tank and he constantly moveed around, once I caught him and put him in 20g with only a few small rocks and live sand he rarely venchers far from his den.
