Mantis ID please

Ripped Tide

Hey guys, this is the first time I've posted on this forum. About 2 weeks ago I was given a gravid female. Not sure the ID. Any ways, the eggs began hatching 2 days ago, and today I removed all the larva and have them separated out in 46 different cups with 2-5 larva in each cup. I plan on daily water changes and expect some cannibalism.

They were fed newly hatched brine shrimp and I actually have a video of a larva carrying around(hopefully going to eat) the brine.

I have been in the hobby for quite some time and this will be my first time with a mantis. I mainly focus on sps, so this will be something fun.

Here's the female

Hopefully that can give someone a good enough look for an I.D.

I'm thinking gonodactylus viridis, but I know nothing about mantis identification.

Thanks in advance! Dylan

Nice. Shots 3 and 5 should be in a mantis edition of Playboy.

I hope the rearing of larva goes well for you, that would be great.

I'll tell you what it is!

It's a damn nice looking mantis that is what it is =D lol....love that deep bright green color really nice!

But I cannot help with the I.D. sorry not much to go off in the pic and my guess is as good as the rest.

P.S. If you mainly focus on SPS keeping then be prepared for a creature that needs 1/10th of that sort of care so your more then well prepared.

Pic 4 looks like a purple meral spot with white ring. Doesnt have the red raptors to be a smithii correct?

Hey guys, thanks for these responses! I am not overly concerned about an ID, just thought it would be fun.

If anyone wants a juvi mantis after I get through the planktonic stages, I'll be more than happy to GIVE them away. All I would ask is that you cover shipping for anyone tha wants one that isnt local to Atlanta.

Very cool! I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, and hopefully I can get in on one of the little terrors!

My friend came up with a brilliant idea to keep the larva seperate.... Ice trays! This will allow high volume with a much smaller space consumption.

Quick update:

I've been a little under the weather today, but the larva are doing well.

They are free swimming, and catching and eating the baby brine!

I'll add another video tomorrow, it's too dark tonight to get a good shot.

Are any of you guys experienced mantis larva raisers? I'd love any advice.

Thanks, Dylan

You got more reactors in that cabinet then Chernobyl!!!

Looks great! I plan on using some reactors down the track for my stands (2 per stand one for Phos control/removal another with carbon for dosing when needed).
