Allright, i tried to google the Smithii to find as much info as possible, but to no avail. All i need to know is at what depth they live and how big they get?

Well, i went back and bought him today. I found out that they get about 3-4" and thats perfect. They say there colors are only second to the O.S., and they love to flash their Meral spots. So he now shares a nice 40g with 2 True Percs my Fiance bought. He's only 1 1/2", so i get to watch him grow too.

Im not to worried. His lair is in the bottom left, and the clowns are hosting in a frogspawn on the upper right. Not to mention the fact he is a smasher, he has plenty of crabs and snails to go after. Its a 40g tank, theres is plenty of room for both i think.

it doesn't matter if he is a smasher he will still get them if he's hungry enough. It was just a warning from someone that has kept mantis' before. Good Luck

Well, the clownfish belong to my fiance..........hehehe. I got the tank to be a mantis/frag tank. It was easier for me to get her to agree on another tank if we could put fish in it.

My 4 inch allardi clown happily cohabitates with my 6 inch peacock... I have never seen any aggression, and the clown even helps beat up and round up poor crabs and crayfish that are on the mantis's dinner menu... The clown also has a LTA that probably makes him feel safer...

Whats the deal! I had not heard or seen anything from my mantis, so i decided to ivestigate last night. I took a small mirror and flashlight, and carefully looked into his hole. What do i see, a hermit munching on his body. That makes two mantis ive lost. Am i the only person who cannot keep Mantis alive. The clowns and corals are fine, the waters perfect, the flows good............what am i doing wrong here?

Try this link for some info http://blueboard.com/mantis/care.htm

Maybe there is something you did or didn't do? Or can be just luck of the draw.

Hopefully you can find one that's a little larger, the little ones may still be vulnerable and more delicate. Keep up the search and good luck.
