I there

I think I have a mantis in my tank. I heard a clicks in the night some times, my hermits are decrise and some times I have found them with out a shell.

Few months a go I saw something when it was going back to the LR I only saw the back of it. but I am sure it wasn´t any snail, fish, or crab. I think its a mantis. I have never see it again but I know its there.

After I read some articles about how to take it out. I have decide to take it out put in the rock on a dip of fresh water. all my corals are not atch to a rocks, but I have some musrooms tahn they are.

My question is will the corals live to a 1 minute FW dip.

Thanx a lot

depending on the species removing the mantis may be more effort than it is worth, especially if you end up killling you corals. I do not believe the corals could survive a 1 minute freshwater dip.
Try a trap, one that works well is a pop bottle with the top cut-off at the widdest portion, then inverted so the opening is pointing into the bottle. Tape or glue the inverted top onto the bottle and then throw some food into the bottom and then place it (after it fills with water) into your tank. It might catch the shrimp.

Yeah, can the mantis do any real damage? If you have bottom dwelling fish I might worry, but they most likely won't hurt fish that can swim. If you keep it fed the most it would do is eat a hermit or snail here and there. They'll eat krill and shrimp and other meaty foods.

1 minute is probaly not going to drive the mantis out. They can be like a tired 3 year old who wants a cookie, VERY stubborn.

Beside of taking the crabs aout of the shell. I think I haven´t loose any fish, But I have a dragonet and a lawnmover blenny than I am worry about those 2, they have been on my tank for 1 month now and nothing has happend.

If you can get a pciture post it in the Mantis forum. Its entirely possible its a species that generally just hangs out in its burrow.
