A friend of mine just returned from China and took a picture of his dinner one night. Looks tasty to me.

He said they tasted wonderful.

Went with some Vietnamese friends to a restraunt in Little Saigon, they served them whole, fried crispy.

Dipped the thing in some sort of mustard sauce and ate it whole....

Where is the barfing smilies??? Yuck!!! Reminds me of when my wife and I went to Jamaica, they had baby octopus in just about every thing...

MMmmmm... Yummy.

Whenever I can, I get Ami Ebi at the Sushi joint.
Basically, they deepfry a shrimp whole.
The fried head is the bomb!!

At least the green onions look good.

I don't think you can fry a mantis to make its shell, especially the dactyls edible.

They probably taste good though.
Well maybe not, I have had some FW and SW crustaceans that were supposed to taste good be awful. I can't see how people eat crawfish, they taste like crap !
I have had them a couple of ways and made by different people, so it was not just one experience. Maybe I need to go to the deep south to get them prepared right.

I never thought it was edible... way too hard and crunchy, however our hosts ate them.

To each their own....

:strange: :strange:

That's some good eatin'.

One of my favorite dishes. The only place I've had any that were worth eating here was at a place called Broussards on Broadway. They have been closed for years now. They were OK there but nothing like getting them fresh.

Come on someone... hurry and make a toothless old guy joke....

I trap craw fish. There are a few species that are suppose to be native to the AR, MO border that have made their way north. I have caught those and some are 6-7in long. The trick to getting them to taste good is to get all of the poop and puke the contents of their stomach out.
I get a cooler fill it with FW then throw about 4 cups of salt in the cooler, mix it up, and dump them in. They will start pooping and throwing up as a reaction to the SW, the water will get very brown. I then drain the water to throw them in FW until cooking time.

I do not like frozen or store bought. The fresh is a whole different taste. I also only keep the larger ones, the ones at the store are too small. JMHO
Happy crawfish trapping!

Give me peel and eat shrimp or chicken wings.

I will someday try them again just incase I am missing out.

I really want to go to the "clam box" in Ipswich, MA.

Trottface when to New England over the summer and said all the clam bakes he went to were awesome, not to mention the lobster dinners.

In the ettoufee and gumbo the rank flavor would get lost (or smothered :) ). So I would be okay with that.

Has anyone ever been to the Gumbo shop on Manchester rd right where Laclede changes to Hanley ?

I guess they only sell Gumbo ingredients ?
I always mean to stop but I am usually on my way to Nacho mamas or CPE and forget.

You should try the scallops in the northeast Steve!

All of the seafood up there is great but the scallops are second to none!

It is actually at McNight/Rock Hill and Manchester...and very pricey. I think it is like 8 bucks for a cup of gumbo. lol

http://www.ipswichma.com/clambox/menu.htm

http://www.arnoldsrestaurant.com/HTML/Menu.htm -- get the native steamers for 12.95 (cape cod MA)

http://www.unionoysterhouse.com/ Boston Ma

those were the only 2 restaurants that we went to. My dad and his brothers prefer to cook their own seafood.

I think we bought one 50 lb crate of clams (to steam) for cheap. Lasted us a week

and we also bought a bunch of lobster for cheap cheap. like 1/2 the price that it is here, only it is fresh.

crab cakes were also cheap.

Glocester MA where the perfecy storm happened had a lot of cheap fish.

Rock Port MA (where the famous Motif #1 is) also had really cheap fish.

By the way, in MA the shellfish are so fresh, that you dont need to use butter. eat them plain i am starving... ( i guess that might be due to the fact that i havent eaten a solid meal in 2 days?)
