Hello all!

Got in my mantis shrimp this past Thursday and was hoping you all could help me ID him/her. I ordered a G. Smithii, and hope they got it right for such a small tank.
Anyway, here's a vid: http://youtu.be/PPRCpimkGS0

Thanks in advance for the help!

I'm not so sure. I can't see the meral spots or the red tubercle at the base of the uropods. The behavior and overall body coloration reminds me of a G. chiragra.

The antennal scales are what is leaning me to g smithii

Also i have had g. s that have been quite mature with the white taking over the purple on the meral spots, i think i caught a glimpse of that in the video

Thanks for the feedback, I will try to get a closer picture of the meral spot and post it here for confirmation.

I was fearful it might be a G. Chiagra, amazing mantis but don't think this tank will comfortably house it once it gets large enough.

The mantis is particularly shy, every time I try to get a good shot he dashes off! I will keep trying to get a solid look at the meral spot and get more photos uploaded. Here are some of the photos I have taken, sorry for the terrible quality, and some weirdly rotated photos...

Stayed extremely still behind my Ipad and managed to get some good shots! His knobs at the end of the raptorial appendages have a pinkish/red color.

G. Chiragra, no doubt about it. I had one with the exact same coloration. Smashers had a purplish hue to them. Mine was awesome. It was my first mantis too so I remember him quite fondly.

I agree on chiragra, the dark coloring combined with the red antennas and yellowish antennal scales are a giveaway for me.
