Mantis shrimp

Caught this today along with many other things. I went on a 2.5 hr boat ride on a research vessel. Left from Norwalk. It was so amazing.
The teens we were with actually dug right in ... We did return all fish , shrimp, crabs( horseshoe among some) , oysters and so on back to the water . except for the spider crab. They needed it for the Aquarium.

Very cool! That mantis is pretty awesome too. I only see smashers in stores and you guys caught a nice spearer. Very cool!

It was amazing .. When the net was dumped .. They pulled it out right away and kept it separate . We measured everything and tagged all of the horseshoe crabs. I was surprised at how much I actually knew. Defiantly want to do it again ..

Where you able to identify the type of mantis? He looks almost translucent.

They did say what it was. I do not remember. The photo is showing it lighter than the actual colors. The sun was so bright. The photos are one if his belly side and the other top side. It was 15 cm. long. They really seemed surprised that it was in the net. I only knew what it was from on RC.

Yea hard to tell from pics without knowing off the bat. They have a spot on inside of their strikers that help with ID. Cool find all around though
