Mantis Tank Substrate

Hi all... Quick question for all of you Mantis Gurus out there... I am in the process of setting up a 12 Gal nano Mantis tank. The species that I am interested in obtaining is a small Odontodactylus scyllarus... My is this a good substrate for that animal? It is Carabsea's Puka Shell. I did not think it was that large when I purchased it (bought it online.. sample pic was not that great.....). Is this too large of a substrate, or will it work just fine? SHould I leave it in, or get some smaller crushed coral? tks...

I would mix in some smaller substrate too, but mantis shrimp like rubble pieces to build stuff with.
