Over the last week I've noticed tiny bites taken out of the mantle of my Crocea Clam. I've speculated that it's my hubby's evil crab that has been doing it, so last night we set up our digital video camera on infra-red to see if we could catch him in action.
To our surprise, it seems to be the skunk cleaner shrimp that are the culprits. One frame of the video clip clearly shows one of our shrimp with a piece of mantle in it's little claws.
So they're going back to the LFS for credit on Saturday.
Has anyone else ever had a problem with skunks picking at clams mantles?
The clam has it's mantle out regularially, the only visable damage is the tiny nips out of the edges of the mantle, but I refuse to let it go further than that.
