Well, here's the update. I was sick, so rather than chance having a shakey hand or worse yet sneeze all over my sensor I waited.
I just did the deed and had a semi favorable outcome. The first pad removed the smudges I was concerned with. However, I found that as I neared the end of the sweep due to the depth of the sensor itself I needed to move the swap to more ofan upright position. When I did that and approached vertical I found it sort of hung up, or skipped a little. That in and of it self seemed to leave a little smudge. In the end (after using the 4 swabs I had) my sensor is much cleaner. There are still a few specs of dust near the edges. I can see them with the loupe and after taking a test shot. I also (with the loupe) see a faint smudge line here and there). In the test shot this is not visible at all.
Soooo, it's much better than it was. I am sure that those smudges will do nothing to help the quality of my images (even though they seems almost invisible on the test shot). So I will order more and try it again until I perfect the technique and have a squeeky clean sensor. I will then regularly blow out the compartment so I don't have to deal with these swabs anymore!
