Map of Bay Area LFS's

I thought of something really cool (well, I think it's cool anyways)!

I am thinking about making a crazy map/database which will have a listing of all of the "Local Fish Stores" (which sell corals) and Reef-Farmers in the Greater Bay Area. The end result could even be put up on Google Earth.

Good or bad idea?

If you feel like helping:

What I need is a list of LFS's that sell/specialize in corals.
Just a company name, city, and a web-site (if applicable).

PS: Can someone try to edit my map? I think it could be cool if we had an open source map like this. People could post feedback on the stores, sales could be listed, special critters, shipment etc. Could end up being an excellent feature, since I always seem to miss the sales at all the LFS!

Cheers,

Josh

Mrhanky,

I'm a map guru, it's basically what I do for grad school and much more technical level, but I love all maps so I think this is a great idea.

Check out google maps new feature called "my maps" I just got you started in about 5mins using the the first four sponsors from the BAR site.

Check it out:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?q=&i...14483322249676362.000001122662217dd2d13&msa=0

EXACTLY!

I'm about halfway down the list that "ViPeR_930" sent:

http://www.bareefers.com/public/resources.aspx

I'll send you the link when I'm done.

I could create a GIS using ESRI's ArcGIS software, do a bit of spatial autocorrelation; but I highly doubt my student advisor would approve of it as a thesis/capstone.

In any event, thanks!

haha, remember you want this map to be used by the general public, so you need to do this on platform that everyone can access, since ArcMap 9.2 is $3,000 you might want to just stick with "my maps" in Google Maps.

what university program are you in?

Cheers,

Josh

nice

you might also want to do one just for BAR sponsors, BAR might be more comfortable promoting it the forum and their site.

Cheers,

Josh

mrhanky, did someone mentioned GIS :D what you will need is a road system by company like thomas brothers, or GDTs, ect. from that you can mark all of the fish stores locations and post your map ... make sure to use dynamic segmentation :D :D
