March meeting

OK, it seem a bit off, and we just got done with the meet at Don's, but it is actually less than 4 weeks away! So here's what we've got so far:

Food: Cajun theme! I've been away from Louisiana too long, so here we go! I'll probably throw together jambalaya and an etouffee (if I can remember how to make a roux). Some sides people might want to consider bringing are red beans and rice, bread pudding, cornbread, beignets, Hurricanes, etc. Boudan anyone?

Topic: Calcium, alkalinity, magnesium, and other elements in the reef tank.

Date/time: March 15, time TBD

Of course, as always, EVERYONE (member or not, out-of-town guests, etc.) is welcome. We don't entertain too much out here at home and really enjoy having everyone over.

All for now, more updates to follow as we get closer!

Its never too early to talk about meetings and food!!! :D Hmmm, I wonder if I can find Abita beer up here... Thats all we drank while we were in New Orleans... Well, that and some Hurricanes... Those things give you nasty hang-overs though... I think its all the sugar...

Hmmm, I might actually make some bread pudding... I make really good Bread pudding IMO... We'll see how froggy I'm feeling...

You can find Turbo Dog and Purple Haze around here. I think even Food City here in OR carries it.

I can make red beans and rice.

Dave Im going to need directions. My wife may possibly come with me and is willing to make some bread pudding if thats not taken. BTW I have what I believe to be a crayola table , neon green with blue tips and neon green axial polyps if you want I could bring you a frag then. I know you said you had an abundance of blue & green so let me know. I cant wait to see your setup in person.

Which do you like Mike??? I mostly drank Turbo Dog...

I would go with the dog. I like porters and stouts mostly, anything that you have to chew works for me.
I have also had Crescent City brews and Jax beer.

We were at the Smokey Mountain Brewery in Turkey Creek on Sunday and they were all out of their porter. How does a brewery run out of beer?

On a side note I was watching a show about factories and they showed the Buttwiper plant and it was impressive to say the least. It is too bad they cannot make good tasting beer.

Have you had Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter?!?!?! Divine!!! :D I didn't think anyone else liked porters that I knew of at least... ;)

Moby likes that dang chick beer Miller Light... Of course that is an insult to most of the women I know... :lolspin:

I think I might be in CA that weekend, but I'm not 100%. Regardless, I'll get those calibration solutions to you guys before then.

I have updated the website to reflect the meeting to the best of my ability and will post directions when Dave sends them and asks them to be put up. I preserved Donny's addition to the front page accenting the Frag Swap.

I'll try to be at this one.

Wow... This one kinda snuck up... :) Looking forward to it...

For those of you all that haven't attended one of Dave's meetings, he goes all out on the food... :D Oh, and the tanks are worth a look or two as well... ;)

Dave~ So, is it going to be Ca, Alk, Mg, and trace elements??? Different methods of adding them into tanks??? Or more of a chemical reaction view point??? Or both???

All of the above, including how they interact with one another, affect your pH, coral health, the whole shebang. Hopefully light on the chemistry, though, although some will be necessary. We'll also discuss testing and salt mixes a bit too in these discussions. Just gotta think about how to roll it all together yet keep it simple enough to be useful to the average hobbyist yet (hopefully) with enough insight so even the "old salts" can learn something new.

I know it is the instructor in me, but, are you going to have a handout. Ok, what I really mean is -- will you please have a handout. I just turned 55 and I will certainly forget all the info before I get home not to mention before I can use it.

Eddie

I'll work something up, if for no other reason than to organize my own thoughts. Also, as always, frags will be available simply by asking. Eddie, don't forget your ballasts this time :)
