Marine Betta Experience

I've had mine for roughly 2 years now, and he is about 4". he eats IO gel food (his favorite), NLS pellets, PE mysis, and anything else I throw in the tank. He pays no attention to my cleaner shrimp, but has eaten a peppermint shrimp, and a cool purple shrimp that lived in my long spine urchin (it acted like a spine itself) he is very peaceful with other fish, and is 100% coral safe. He is fairly reclusive, but over the years has become more social and now spends about half his time out in the open. definitely a great fish overall.

My marine beta is absolutely my favorite fish in my 180. It comes out in the light on a regular basis now and even will swim about 1 foot to get at a piece of mysis shrimp floating by, but no further, then he backs up into a more neutral location to watch the other fish and food etc.

Mine is about 4 inches long, I've had him about 6 months or so.

He ate about 8 of my peppermint shrimp, leaving only the largest 2 peppermints. (I had them to take care of my aptasia problem which they did nicely). He's also eaten the smaller cleaner shrimp and two small chromis. Other than that I'd say it's the perfect fish for a reef tank as long as you don't mind having fewer shrimp and not very many small fishes.

I would 100% agree on the "begging" behavior. They are quite smart for fish I think and they definetly respond to your presence etc.

How long have you guys kept your bettas? Mine is going on 11 years in my tank, not sure of his actual age. I don't think he ever sleeps haha. He's out all day and night.
