Marine Depot's Low Price guarantee is worthless

I can't stand companies that do not stand behind their policies. I tried ordering a few things from them yesterday. I wanted to try a different company. I submitted the price from a competitor with a screen shot. They said the sale was too good and would not price match it. They stated it had to be a pricing error. Basically, if there is a significant sale, they will not price match. I had this happen to me at Lowes before trying to price match with Sears. An employee told me that he would not price match because Sears was offering a great deal. I went to a manager and he apologized for the confusion and honored his company's policy. This wasn't the case with Marine Depot. My first experience with them turned out to be horrible. I just wanted to let other members know.

Fortunately for me, I still had the items in my cart with the other company. I went ahead and placed the order today for the sale price.
 
Which item did you have trouble with price matching? I imagine if it were an Ecotech product, or another product that enforces MAP pricing, the low price guarantee would not work, unfortunately.
 
It wasn't an Ecotech product or an expensive item for that matter. I thought MAP pricing was for advertised minimum prices. I see a lot of companies using the scroll over technique or add to cart to see price (Amazon) to get around advertising it. Marine Depot's main contention was that they would lose money on the sale. A lot of retailers lost money on certain items during Black Friday (door busters). They make up for it by increasing sales on other items. I tried to do that as well by ordering different items and giving them a chance to earn future business. They shouldn't offer the low price guarantee.
 
Even if it was Ecotech for example, if you advertise price match with no exclusions on your terms page you should honor it. I did shop with Marine Depot I recently with another vendor just because it was easier then trying to get price match policy enforced. To me if your gonna match prices even discounts like 10% then just make a code for the customer its easier then trying to call or email to price match.

Dont get me wrong Marine Depot has always been great to shop with and never once messed up my order. They also have decent selection. Just my two cents
 
They have never failed to price match for me.
But then I have never tried on Black Friday
But then I figure, if someone has a great Black Friday sale on something I want, I will just buy it from them.
 
They failed me on Friday as well, I've always ordered from them since they're so close to my house and I always get my producs next day. I went to order a Solana XL 67 from them and have them Price Match Premium Aquatics 11% off and a base price that was already $50 less than what they had listed. First the guy tried to tell me that 11% off of 1649.99 was a little over $1500 and I explained to him that the price I saw in their cart was ~$1468 and that even double checking it with a calculator it was still $1468. After finally getting that resolved we then got onto the debate as to whether or not I could use their coupon code for NOCALTAX or not. I was told they could match the price, but wouldn't honor their own coupon, so I went ahead and placed the order for the tank as well as several hundreds of dollars of accessories from Premium Aquatics and saved myself the sales tax.
 
Funny I just came accross this thread. I also was disappointed with them but not for price matching. I ordered a BioCube and their site stated that if you ordered a Bio Cube 29 you would get a intant $50.00 coupon. Well I did order one and never got the coupon. When I inquired about that they said I didnt get the coupon because I orded the Cube with the stand the coupon is for the cube only. I asked them to show me where it states anything different from saying that if I buy a cube I get 50 off. They said oh well we didnt mean it that way its for tank only. After spending over 500 they still did not honor the 50 even if it was their mistake. And they left the same coupon on their site after telling me that it was a mistake.
 
Well, it looks like the sale is on again. The competitor is running the same sale today as they did on Black Friday. It is 50 percent off Jager heaters. I do not want to post the competitors name, but this proves that it was indeed not a price mistake.
 
i am with you on that one it happend to once and there were three items i was buying and they said they will match only price for one and thats it they are rip offfffffff

hi all i have neptune apex full set up i have diy led fixture with cree's and dimmable drivers mealwell and i have connected dimming cable to variable port 1/2 and need help with sunrise and sunset codiing mine are not doing that sunrise effect please someone help me with this

Thank you for the feedback. We have recently updated our Price Match Guarantee to include matching competitor's coupons and it looks like we have a few kinks to work out. I apologize for the inconvenience caused by the changes we have made. We do price match any posted sizes as long as we can verify it (we usually just go to the competitor's site for verification.)

We have corrected it to ensure it doesn't happen again.

I spoke with Walter (CSR Supervisor) over the phone. He explained to me exactly what happened and reassured me that is not how the policy should be implemented. Thank you for checking into the issue for me.
