Marineland skimmer

I saw it at the Marineland booth at IMAC. It was OK. I wouldn't slap it on a 300 gallon tank. Maybe a 75 at most. for the money, there is better on the market with more flexibility and quality. The concept of the marineland was great, but the performance is subpar IMO.

I've only seen the Marineland skimmers in a box at the LFS. They are sleeker than the coralife skimmer (which I have), but basically look like they'd work about the same. I like my Coralife SS 220, but if I were buying a new skimmer right now, I might look at the Octopus.
FWIW,

imo they are ok, and for some applications it would work great. it has a super small foot print, so if you are restricted in that aspect then it would be fine. the reaction chamber is small, so it does not have much dwell time. i think it uses one of the new maxi jet utility pumps, the pumps look nice, but i dont know how good they are for skimmer applications. the plastic is still thin and flimsy looking, i think my octopus skimmer is built better if that tells you anything. for that price, there are too many other better options to use. like hop said, the 300 model is probably better suited for a 55-75 gal tank, and the 100 model is probably better for tanks 40gal and smaller. i like it better than the super skimmers though.

Nobody Has anything else to say about them? Are the coralife skimmers any better?

I would place the coralife lower on the totem pole than the marineland.

This conversation may go easier if you post your tank specs and budget and we'll name some skimmers for you? The octopus, MSX and vertex skimmers may hit your pocketbook easier and are all hands down better skimmers than the two you mentioned;)

Well ok i took the Marineland one back. My tank is 120 gal my sump will have about 50-70 gal in it. Im just setting it up and this is my first tank. I think Im going to get the middle octopus recirculating skimmer Will that be big enough I will have I will have a mixed reef and a heavy fish load.
