Mark's 150 gallon

Day 0

Day 3

Hard to see any change.

Latest FTS. The Teal Stag is roaring back now and parts of the slimer recession has a hard edge. Fingers crossed.

You changed the position of the test acro ? Looks like you did. Try not to move it, so pictures are always showing the same side.

Looks very healthy to me in the pictures

Cheers
Daniel

I changed frag racks, and I tried to line it back up. :D The bg fish picking also tend to vibrate things around. The Foxface is not exactly delicate when cleaning.

It looks like overall it has better polyp extension.

Kind of early but it does look good.

I agree, way too early. My Fundip tenuis looked awesome for weeks before sudden decline and death, but you know how I like to take and post pictures. One day they'll be worth looking at!

I might get addicted to water changes, I think this tank really needs more and more often. Under blue lights colors are really starting to pop.

Getting very impatient waiting for the Triton results.

I have everything that I can cross crossed for you Mark :) I'm really glad to see the tester acro is looking so happy :) I hope this means that things are back on the mend again mate, I've been making sacrifices to the reefing gods for you and your tank :P

Ha, thanks Dom, I need all the help I can get! :lolspin:

Holy jeez, haven't checked this thread in a while and was shocked! Went back a few pages but didn't see what you are using to check Alk? I went through a similar meltdown and my corals looked almost exactly the same and it was due to my Hanna checker giving me false readings. Combined with carbon dosing it was a recipe for disaster. Took 6 months for my tank to look respectable again. I bet a happy meal triton says your Alk is higher than you think;)

Thanks for the visit!

I use salifert for Alk so hopefully not, but we shall see. I'm still not sure what exactly happened but I'm sure it was my dumb fault somehow. :jester:

I just completed my 3rd water change in 4 days. Filled my 25 gallon Brute to the rim ... uh, then realized I could not wheel it without spilling the water. :D New water KH 8.7, tank is at 7.6 one hour after the change. Every day things look better.

The Hanna Alk checker did the same thing to me... I gather that the Salifert kits(well all titration kits) can go bad if the titration agent gets contaminated. I always clean all the tools tubes, and syringes with tap and then DI water when I use them because of this. I keep DI in a spray bottle for such cleanings.

When I hear this I think that that the Triton test results will show something like potassium or iron or zinc either really high or bottomed out. I'm really glad you are seeing improvements. It could be all the swearing and flipping the bird at the tank had an effect as well:p

The flipping bird dance and guttural expletive prayer that goes with it is a very underrated method of tank improvement!!
Mark may have it down to a science! :)
Seriously though.. Good to see the water overhaul is helping..
This is reminiscent of JBNY current experiences..

Thanks guys, I excel at bird flipping and expletives. I would not mention JBNY and me in the same sentence though, it's insulting to JBNY. :D

I've been running this skimmer, hooked up to the outside via a hose and window fitting, for 2 years. For some reason, a few months ago, the skimmer became unreliable with fits of either overflowing or super dry foam that would push the top open and run down the outside. Even with a $10 paperweight on the lid it did the foam deal again. I wiped it up but here you can see 12 hours of skim and the weird dark areas under the cup.

The intake hose has some mold in it near the window so after taking this pic I removed it and the skimmer is, for now, sucking in room air. Not sure if this is even an issue, or if it sucked in something bad. Could be mold, could be the new neighbors using a fireplace more often, could be a coincidence.

I will run a new hose and hook the intake up again once the weather warms up and the house is shut for summer.

Maybe I missed it but does the I take hose for skimmer that goes outside have a filter and where did you get your sand from(was it bagged and bought at lfs or was it from marco rocks type of vendor)

No filter on the hose, it pokes out of a small window about 6 feet above ground level.

Sand is CaribSea Special Blend.

A ****, really?

5) Place the vial containing your sample into the self-addressed envelope provided, attach required postage, and return to us.

$50 didn't include the return postage? How the hell am I supposed to know how much it costs? It was never returned to me so I guess it's lost somewhere.

Well you could have gotten contaminant from outside. The reason I asked about the sand is i do know from some vendors who get sand off the coast there have been bullets that have been found in it which would be copper and lead. Sorry not trying to add to your confusion.

Thanks, no problem making suggestions.

I don't think it's a contaminant from outside but it could be a dirty air hose that collected mold and is now producing spores since the season is changing. Poor maintenance on my part, might not be the issue, but a good reason to clean or replace just in case.
