Mark's 180 Starfire upgrade

Can you explain how do you take the ones that are already encrusted on the rock, when you get the corals off and the coral is still encrusting how do you get that off otherwise it would just keep growing???? Sorry for the dumb question but im not sure, its the first time where my corals are really growing and i may have to do something in the future.

I chopped up my large slimer and just added a couple pieces of it back in. I think I ended up taking 10 pieces to the garage; so far ;) I needed to get a couple of my favorite pieces more light. My PM was also being attacked from three different sides, so I decided to move a few others to give it some room for a few more weeks.

Good to see you enjoying the tank again!

I just grab my clippers and clip off as much as I want. The rest that is left on the rock, I try to scrape off with the clippers. Good luck. Its always more fun when the corals are growing; but then there is a whole different set of problems ;)

Thanks Brian, I wouldn't say I'm enjoying the tank quite yet ;) I've just noticed that a couple things are off and I'm just trying to buy some more time. This will be a 5-6 step process and I am glad that it went well today. I will say that now that the job thing is all squared away, ther is one less thing to worry about and I have really been enjoying watching the jocs do their dance.

Mark, how do you prevent your fish from jumping? Do you have a mesh net above it or does the canopy do a god job?

Yep, I have netting. It has saved me more than a couple times. I have had two fish that have jumped through the netting as well. It is a preventative technique.

Can I just say how cool the vortech battery back ups are. I am sitting here by candlelight due to a blown power tansformer and I'm barely concerned. It does help that I have the Honda generator in the garage, but I don't get all crazy like I used to :twitch:

Nice to see you posting activity and picts on your thread again. I hope that it will be more frequent!

Mark is very nice to see u playing with ur tank again!!!

Thanks, I did have a good time this weekend tinkering with the tank. I have also been training my fish to eat of the net. Every night I plave the PE mysis in the net and the majoity of the fish will come eat out of the net now. Those darn three green chromis are the last fish to try it out :(

Hope your power is back soon....how long do those back ups last? I was considering them.

It only lasted a couple hours. Its sure a different feeling when a few neighborhood blocks are completely black :eek1: As for the vortechs and the battery back up, I become a bigger fan everytime I go through something like that. I need to pick one for the frag tank :)

Thanks Dan, I am happy with the way the tank turned out this weekend. I chopped up a couple corals that needed it due to lack of flow and light. Everyime I can cross off a few of my "to do" items, the tank always gets a little closer to my expectations. :bounce3:

Shoot... looking at those pictures. I don't know how the middle part get it's flow. It's so dense!

Thanks Jay, The tank has definitely filled in a bit since the last time you were by. :wildone:

I have been having a hard time deciding which corals are going to make the cut. I took out a couple, but I finally added a couple more :fun2:

 That always makes me smile. I always get alittle nervous when it get to the last few second on the timed test.
