I am, and will always be, a SPS junkie :thumbsup:
It looks like I will need to sell off some of my lps collection just so others do not even percieve that mistake in any way. My LPS just help the sand from blowing around ;)

Thanks Leonardo. I am glad I waitied beyond the first series of cones that were put out on the market. The craftmanship and attention to detail of the deluxe even impressed this cynic.

Good. I'm not back in yet either. My tank's just on maintenance mode right now. Haven't bought anything since I lost all my sps frags back then.

So, just curious Mark, what was it that led you the ATB way? Good skimmer for sure but being an Alpha 250 owner I'm a little skewed... ATB is a great product please don't anyone get me wrong, I'm just very fond of my Alpha. It really is a fantastic piece of equipment and does an incredible job of pulling out the crud in my tank!

That double bubble plate has me curious??? What do you make of it and it's overall contribution to the job it does?

I guess I am partial to certain brand and customer servive. If I remember correctly, the footprint of the alpha is a little larger than the deluxe. My system is already in place and any new skimmer I looked into needed to fit correctly. I already have an airstar pump so I am very comfortable with their quailty. I can not say the same about the red dragon pumps/impellars and the nightmare stories about trying to get a replacement pump because the pump had seized up on people.

Like I said, My preference is the ATB. I have friends that have the alpha, but if I was going to swap out my H&S, I was going to try something different. Having the TCT (triple cone technology) and the float kill switch just pushed me over the edge. The extra craftsmanship sure creates an easy rising foam. I just saw an alpha 200 yesterday when visiting a friends tank and its a great skimmer.

I'm not trying to offend other skimmer users out there. When it comes down to the end of it all, it was a personal decision and I'm very happy with the deluxe.

Yeah me neither on the offending other skimmer owners out there. It is as you say a "personal choice".

I do like the auto shut off thing on the collection cup for sure and I'm very interested in the double bubble plate but my Alpha's good enough for me! :lol2:
 
Ahh yes I do remember seeing that pic. You really need a colony shot to appreciate it. I'm sure where it is located in the tank though make it a pain to get a colony shot. I have added that piece to my "most wanted list" ;)
