Mark's 180 Starfire upgrade

Would you guys go threaded on both sides of the drain or go with a slip on top and threaded on the bottom? If I go slip on top, I could use some sort of stand pipe for the gurgling noise. Man, I feel like such a noob. I completely forgot how a tank should be set up. With that said, I am beginning to have second thoughts as the potential costs are becoming overwhelming already!

I have slip on top, with a stand pipe.

New page, new picture :)

Ahh that's right, I've seen those pics before. I think I'll go with oak. Now, I just have to decide on the color of the stain.

Here is a pic of a Leemar rimless tank. This one is 30x30x18, so it's a bit smaller than the one I am thinking about going with. Let me know if you like the stand. It's just a simple MDF stand.

A stand like that might be easier than building, staining and spending time and money on a custom fab. I do like that my stand is different and that I built it myself. Besides Sang, you will get this tank all set up and then the next week you will dissapear again  Sorry, I just had too :D

I have a friend that did his stand in MDF. If paint well it holds up well. 5 yrs later his looked like the day he built it.

Personally, I think the internal overflow is not bad looking. I think most people go with an external overflow so they could have more room in the tank. However, with the potential tank being 36" wide, I still have plenty of space to do my aquascaping. What do you guys think?

If you go with an external overflow, IMO, you need to do a full acrylic insert for the entire back of the tank. Reefbum did this with his newest tank. I hate it when you can see the out line of the overflow from inside the tank.

If the back is painted all black, would you still be able to see the outline of the overflow?

Yes, you can still see where they glued it on. When I got my Miracle tank I talked to Derek at length about this, The only way to aviod it was a full acrylic insert. Seeing how I wasn't going with an in wall tank, I see no reason for external overflows. Plus the insert was an additional $300-400 for my tank, plus the extra cost of external over flow themselves.
