Mark's 180 Starfire upgrade

That's pretty incredible Mark. If this is your "lesser effort" tank after your TOTM I think we are all in for it. Wow, love the colony middle left, I think you mentioned that was a Red Robin Stag? Pretty sweet chalice below that and I'm not even going to mention the colony middle right. Nice to see larger colonies! Whats been your maintenance routine? Are you bare bottom there?

Thanks for the kind words, both here and through PM's for the people who contacted me.

The tank is currently 50/50 with/without sand. I removed the sand in the front as it was just being a PITA as the larger colonies present a different set of challenges; one of them is flow distribution in the tank.

I still believe in frequent water changes changes and keeping an eye on the tank. I still only test for alk and salinity and change out my media reactors every 6-8 weeks.

Cheers

Thank you. I shoot with an older Nikon D90 and Nikon 105mm lens for macros and just a basic nikon lens for other shots.

oh man..look at your tank. i feel the pain to make you happy. you must watch and clean it 24/7 man. tank so so clean and coral so beautiful.make me just want to change to MH

Tank looks great!!! Hope all is well

Thanks Stacie. Life is great, just not as much time for the tank with everything else that's going on. Hope all is well out on that side of the country.

Haha. I actually do very little work on the tank these days. I clean the glass with a hammerhead float once a week and that's about it besides water changes every other week. The coraline gets cleaned off the back every 6-8 weeks or so. Thanks!

Looking back....

Looking back....

First of all.
Thank you for sharing the last 5 years with us. It was incredible to watch.
I glanced through the threads for a few hours, but obviously couldnt digest everything.
Would you be willing to take some time to share with us your thoughts on the whole process. Highlight the highs and lows. Expand on the triumps and pitfalls.
Also a summary of your tanks life would be interesting to read.

I noticed things like the sand bed depth changing, and the number of colonies drop.

I would like to know after 5 years of dedication and love, how you got to where you are now and why. Basically I just want all of your trade secrets! thats not too much to ask is it? :spin1:

Thank you again for the last 341 pages of learning.

Looks like you changed some coral places. Love it.

P.S. I hope Liverpool wins, but Everton are a tough team to beat. They are always looking to score early and defend the whole game.

Merseyside Derby? Is that in Ireland or UK somewhere? I was just in Ireland and England last 2 weeks and I think I remember seeing that name over there...
