I never considered this a possibility, but I don't have lots of experience with clownfish, so I am asking for opinions.
2 years ago I had a pair of Clarkii's in my reef. The apparent female died in a human-caused disaster. The male survived. About a year ago, a smaller, much more aggressive Maroon was added, due tear down of a different tank.
The Maroon has ruled the tank, claiming both nems as it's own. They mostly stay in separate areas of the 100 gallon tank and rarely see each other. The Maroon will sometimes chase the Clarkii, if he comes too close to one of the nems.
Yesterday, to my amazement, the Clarkii was doing the 'submission dance' within inches of the Maroon in its nem. Upside down, shivering and doing his best Joe Cocker imitation.
Is this the begining of a possible pair, or prelude to WW III ?
