Maroon clown acting strange

Have a maroon clown that's been staying right at the surface of the water for the past few days. It's still eating and otherwise seems perfectly fine but I'm wondering if that's normal? I've tried coaxing it down to the live rock I have and it came down and stayed poking around the caves for about 10 min then swam back up. Should I be concerned?

this is normal clown behavior. they pick areas and stick by them. many times they pick just above the powerhead or in a top corner. other fish in the tank including another clown may make him feel like swimming around the other areas

Okay good to know, he picked the corner right by the power head and water heater and just hangs out there but as long as nothing's wrong I guess I'll just leave him there. Thanks for letting me know

I have three clowns and they have been together all their lives. Two have taken up residence in the Hairy Mushrooms and the other ...well, let's just say, there is something about the overflow box she's in love with.

I've been thinking of maybe getting another since the one I have is pretty young and seeing if maybe it'll get him to explore a bit more but you know, if he likes the spot that much I might as well just let him have it.

You can try it. I'm not sure if they become territorial with one being there first. Just monitor them together. Good Luck
