i have a maroon clown or sometimes refered to as sumartran...i was wondering if anyone can explain this behaviour...sometimes ha leaves his anemone and swing to the gravel at the bottum of the tank and stirs the gravel by swimming really fast while holding himself in the one position with this front fins...he stirs the gravel making the tank a little mirky in that particular spot, then satisfied with his job returns hoime to his anemone, is this common and why does he do this??

*grins* get used to it. and expect it to spit gravel at you every time you come near the tank.

I had (!) a deep sand bed... about 4 inches at least. my maroon has dug for so long shes got a big piece of glass showing on the bottom and i have REALLY high sand around the sides.

shes starting on another spot now.... its all below her anemone that she does it.

maroons are also the biggest cleaners of clowns. mine moves frags, hermits, rocks.. anything she doesent like.

dont push the sand back. it'll move it agian. i just laugh at mine.
my little juvi is trying to mimic her now, but hes to tiny to get anything to shift lol

That's why I no longer keep GSM'S, Clarkis will do the same thing at times. I have kept them as well over the years. I am very happy with the Onyx Perculas I got from Rod, they aren't really big enough to move anything of any weight, and I have never witnessed them kicking up sand even before I went bare bottomed.

yeah my maroons kicked up lots of sand in my 90 gallon, it is kind of annoying, so in our 180 we used starboard instead of sand, and now she cant kick it up and make a mess lol
