Maroon Clown is an Idiot.

It's official, every time I feed my bubble tip, the maroon won't let it eat. It takes the shrimp out of it's mouth and throws it out behind the rocks. I finally had to beat him away with a pair of tweezers until the shrimp was completely in the bta's mouth, and he still tried getting it out after I let him come back. Dumb.:sad2:

I guess I should ask, is this behavior normal? I thought the clown was supposed to be feeding the anemone, not removing food. Is there a reason why he would be doing this?

If the pieces you are feeding are too large the maroon may think that something is attacking its nem. When I fed larger pieces of silversides my maroons would get rid of them but when I switched to chopped krill and mysis it was no longer an issue.

Thanks, I'll try mincing it up. I know he didn't like me guarding the nem with tweezers.

I use a wooden stick the ones you use to stir paint...yes it was never used on paint

thats crazy...I used to have a maroon clown that did the exact same thing, even if I tried to feed smaller pieces the clown would just take them and spit them out also, then suck up the nems tentacles in its mouth like it was trying to suck the nems tips clean or something. Got rid of the maroon and got a black clown and all was fine afterwards.

I would hate to do that because the two look so good together. See avatar. That was the first day he found the anemone, The nem is now about twice the size.

Maroons can be roughnecks so I'd watch my nem carefully if I were you
