Maroon Clown Pair in 40 breeder

I am setting up a 40 breeder tank and would like to feature a pair of maroon clownfish with a BTA. My concern is I have read that maroon clowns can be agressive towards other fish and I would like to have 2-3 more tank mates with them. Does anyone have any experience keeping a maroon clown pair in a 40 breeder thank with other reef safe fish? I am also considering keeping an Ocellaris pair instead since they are more peaceful but I prefer the maroon pair. Any suggestions on tank mates for the maroons? Thanks!

I think in a 40 those would be the only fish. You may be able to have a goby or some other if you introduce it before the clowns. Maroons are one of if not the boldest clown. I would go with a different type for that tank. If your dead set on them, see if you can find someone else who has them in person. It should show you what their personality is like.

I kept a spawning pair of maroons in a smaller tank and they did fine.

I would disagree that they are very bold. They can be very aggressive, but IME are far less bold than clarkii or melanopus.

If you keep them with a BTA they should not be roaming the tank a lot but rather stay in their anemone.

I would avoid all tank mates that may be perceived as egg thieves or that are known to pick on corals and anemones.
I would also avoid fish that are very active or restless swimmers.

Possible tank mates (IMO) would be:
All kinds of shrimp gobies
Damsels, preferably Chryspitera or Pomacentrus species,
Dragonets,
Pipefish of the genus Corythoichthys (dragonface), Doryrhampus (bluestripes) and maybe even Dunckerocampus,
Possibly Banggai cardinals,
Dottybacks may work as well.

Important is to have enough hiding places for the other fish were the maroons can't follow them.

As a data point,

I have a pair of lightning Maroons in a 40b with 4 btas, a lot of corals. Fish include a Perucla, 2 tangs, a Talbolt's Damsel, Melanarus wrasse, yellow assesor, 2 anthias.

Yes its a lot of fish but it is temporary. My 190 just got wet last night so most will be making the move soon.

Bold and aggressive were meant to be interchangeable. Looked like they really wanted the pair I didnt want to say aggressive.

I have a pair that has lived for a decade in 40b,65,and 58 tanks- all same footprint. They are aggressive, but no problem for damsels, purple basslets or dottybacks, and the like. I would not put anything large or slow moving with them. Results vary with individual fish.
