Maroon clown.

hey, i am interested in breeding maroon clowns, are they a very popular fish? and how much would a good price for a 'true' breeding pair.

i am interested in doin the same with cardinals.

Is it very had and what would be the average survival rate be?

it is not easy to breed anything but if you can find the breeding pair and do your research you could do it i have never done anything like it but hope to someday when my clowns get old enough

yeh, i have done a fair bit of research on it and im keen. i can get a pair for 150 of maroon clowns is that reasonable? that are already spawning.

ive had a pair of o.c clowns for 2 years and hoped they would spaw, but yeh nothing. i purchased a mated pair of maroon clowns and nothing again. I was reading somewhere that there is a fish that looks exactly like the maroon clown fish, but very hard to tell apart. i might have one of those because my male has no cheek spikes and my female does.

And the cardinal fish i was saying before i can get an already spawning pair for 20. again is this reasonable?

i got a pair for 61 bucks, so i guess probably depends on the area you live ?

yeh, in adelade. i got a mated pair for 90 but, these ones are a 'true' breeding pair already spawning.

I wouldn't waste your money on a 'true' breeding pair...there is no guarantee that with the move to your tank they'll still spawn.

Agreed, If you've had the one pair for 2 years, they are probably your best best, make sure the conditions are right, and they have a good nesting place

I hear the LFS guys laughing their asses off about selling "Spawning Pairs"

oh ok thanx for that. ive had 2 occs for about 2 years on their own, and they havnt started. these ones come from a x-breeder.

Personally, I wouldn't try breeding maroon clowns. If this is just for breeding purposes, I would get a more peaceful clownfish, like perculas. Aggressive fish aren't typically as popular as peaceful fish.

yeh its mainly for breeding purposes, and to research a little bit. if i were to do percs though should i buy them mated or get one from different lfs of the same?

Maybe try to get your Occellaris to breed?

yeh im trying to. theres a pot, protein skimmer, filter and heater in a 4ft tank. as well as a blue tang. and live rock.

is that the right kind of set up or do i need to add change things? any other suggestions.
