I recently picked up a clownfish sold as maroon picasso clown that was tank raised. Do you think this is the offspring of a picasso and a maroon or just a misbarred maroon?

Yeah a guy in Duluth Minn bought it. Its really amazing! Ive talked with him hes having a little problems with some diseases right now but mainly on the reagular Maroon female not the male lightning marron.

def a misbared maroon.. hope you didnt pay extra for the made up name...i just got 2 picassos..what do you think??

"Picasso Clown" is a made up name too. Did YOU pay extra for it? :hmm6:

I think the misbar pattern is pretty cool on the gold stripe. I think its worth a few extra bucks. Cool fish!

no need to get all jumpy..RELAX.. i think its a really cool looking fish... i love clowns and all different types of the crosses... im just saying hope he didnt get slammed on the price.. some LFS take advantage of misbarred fish and get away with doubling or trippling the price.. as with the different grades and qualities of picassos..

Tongs in Fountain Valley (LA) did have what could be described as a "picasso" maroon in one of their show tanks. This was back in 2004 or 2005.

Doesn't picasso automaticly mean percs as all picasso's are percula clowns? Which by definition would make the clown above not a picasso because it is a Premnas biaculeatus?

The first true perc. that looked like that was termed a "picasso" because of the pattern, remined everyone of a picasso painting. Shortly after that there was a maroon with similar patterns that was called a maroon picasso. That one didn't catch on only cause it wasn't bred and I'm not sure what happened to it. So yes, right now everyone associates "picasso" with the ones that ORA has been breeding cause they are pretty commmon and everyone has excepted the common name given to them, just like snowflakes are associated with occelaris from the ones TMC in England started breeding.

I wasn't jumpy at all, you just read it that way I guess. No worries from this end. I like both your clowns, I just thought your post was kind of ironic is all.:D

Thanks everyone for your replies.
I paid 80 cdn for the clown. There were only 2 that got sent to the retailer from an indo shipment. Most of the stuff he gets from this supplier are captive bred from corals to shrimp to seahorses. Labelled as "tank raised gold maroon picasso". The retailer is an honest guy with good prices , he marked it up appropriately depending on what he paid. Let see if he get's more of these clowns and will let you guys know what they look like. He believes they have started to cross maroons with picassos and this is the first batch that was sent to him. He did place an order for about a dozen but only got 2.
In any case, i like the look of it and may try to pair it up with a picasso or a perc.

You are going to try to pair up a Maroon with a Perc? I feel bad for the perc:) Little guy will likely not last long.

Yes the aggresion of maroons did cross my mind. Don't really want to add another maroon though. I have to think about this.

My female GSM is so aggressive that my male has to be submissive. He is the pushover in my tank.

I seriously would not risk mixing any other species with a lone maroon.
