Maroon Slime Algae

Ok ... who has run across maroon slime algae on there sand and rocks?
I did a water change and vacuumed it all all and in less than two days it's back...

Is there something that I am doing wrong with my tank ...

I was doing some research on how to remove it and there was something called red slime remover... Has anyone used it before?

Some people also used Vodka dosing... which I am not sure how to go about doing it...

Any suggestions?

some people experience bacterial blooms with vodka. I've used red slime remover. does work just follow directions.

Do an RC search on cyanobacteria.

Personally, I avoid chemical additives. They tend to treat the symptoms, not the root problem.

I agree 100% with Scott..
cyano is usually associated with higher phosphate levels...
What is your water change regiment??? How often and how much do you change?? Do you overfeed your fish?? You could try using some phosphate remover..

Been there, went through it for a month, stayed religious with the water changes and it stopped

How long has the tank been set up?
What sort of flow is in there?
Are you running carbon?
Are you running GFO or a PO4 remover?

FYI- Queen Conchs eat Cyanobacteria.

tank has been up for about 10 months or so now...
I am running 3 - 1200 gph powerheads
I have a BRS GFO...
I feed my fish once a day and not a lot... mainly pellets
I am currently doing a 10% water change bi weekly but I think I am going to do that on a weekly basis
