I have a 56g 30x18x24inches that has recently finished cycling. Its going to be a barebottom sps dominated tank. I've owned many ocellaris but I hear these are far more agressive. Assuming I have a pair of gold stripe maroons in this tank, what would be good tank mates for them?

gobies and blennies seem largely ignored, cardinals don't seem like they make a female as angry as other similar sized fish.
whatever you intend to put in the tank with them, if it is smaller than the female will be, put it in before or around the same time as them. with not much room for a break in the line of sight, the female will be more likely to challenge newcomers once they are established and settled on what they consider 'home'. not necessarily required, but it can make things easier.

Agreed. My maroons were the last thing I put in the tank and they show almost no aggression towards the other fish.
They have plenty of aggression towards me though :lol:

I think it depends on the fish honestly. I added my pair of GSMs first, then put in the anemone. The I added a sixline, 2 chromis, a bicolor angel and lawnmower blenny over a few months. The female GSM doesn't bother anything in the tank. If fact, the angel hangs out on the same side of the tank sleeping in the rocks by her LTA. If and when they start spawning things might change. Just my experience.

Dwarf angels would make great tank mates for maroon clowns, as well as wrasses. Especially the more aggressive sixline.

ah ic, certain species are more prone to nip than others but yes there is always a risk involved.
