Maroun 150g Build Thread

what are the slender yellow fish that is not the tang? I'm looking for something yellow.

That would be the yellow cories wrass. they are good additions as some might pick pests on accro. They were reported to pick on flatworms but they didn't touch the red variety I had.

Is the Hydnopora a large piece? I would frag a few small pieces from it keeping a safe margin of healthy tisue between those and any STNd part this way you'll have a backup if the mother colony doesn't make it. Place those frags in different areas in the tank and check how they react to differnt flow and light. I would say medium high light and medium high flow should be good.

The ORA green slimer definitly needs stronger flow not sure about light but it should handle at least medium to high light What lighting do you have? Sorry if I missed it in your thread.

The candy cane looks really bad. If it was fine while you fed it I would go back to spot feeding it and see if it improves.

Thanks for yoru help.
Hydnopora is a large piecve and guess I'll divide it in 2-3 pieces and see if any makes it. STN is really slow just a protion of a branch every 1-2 weeks but then it extends to kill the whole branch.

Thanks Catherine.
I'm hoping all these will make it through the move without any losses. I still have nightmares about your tank move.
Hope your 1000 G will be up soon.

My nose still has nightmares about that...I will never forget that smell.

I'm pretty behind. Life is just so busy here, I did however put in to buy someone's used lighting this morning. If I can get what I asked for, I'll have about 60% of our required lighting. I wish I had more time and money, but at least I have a job, so eventually things will start falling into place. I'm also still injured from something in September, so things move extra slow while I'm healing.

Thanks.

1 250 Gieseman 250 W 22k in the middle
2 150 Arcadia 14 K on the sides
2 54 W Arcadia T5 HO actinic
1 80 W Arcadia T5 HO 14 K
2 T8 actinic Arcadia fluorescents.

Thanks do you have any pics. That is a lot of wattage for a 80 gallon.
Your T 8 is how many watts .No wonder you have good coral growth and color.

Its the decisions that make the progress slow. When we first started this, I had everything laid out and picked out. Then someone made a good suggestion and everything changed. Its just amazing how much work a little change can generate.

I'm excited for your upgrade!

You said it: good Suggestion then its worth the delay.
I still have time as I can't do anything before the appartment is finsihed and that should happen before mid next year so I'm trying to decide on all aspects and trying to gather some equipment I still need this way when the upgrade can happen it'll be fast enough...

maroun.c. Like to ask some questions. I have a 90g tank and i was thinking about making my tank a reef. I do have some mushrooms that are thriving as of right know. But i want to add some good looking things other then fish to the tank to really make it pop. I look through your thread and say wish my tank looks like that and thought you could be a good person to ask about some coral questions. I really dont know to much about corals so anything helps for me. You can also check out my thread in the reef discussion forum its called 90g Almost Two Years. Please invite other people to come and join in on the thread as well. Thanks

Thanks for all the compliments.Compared to other tanks here on RC my tank ain't as good as you describe...
Will try to check out your thread (boarding a flight in 10 min) and then give some recommendations if I can...
Feel free to ask whatever you need on this thread or on yours or in PM...

Time to revive this thread again.
After a very heavy flight schedule last month, was only for 5-6 days near the tank in 1.5 months...here are some quick updates of the last couple of months.

Lost my Kole tang after he's been in the tank for 2 years, not clear why but he looked a bit skinny 3-4 months ago then fattened up again then just disappeared.
Also lost a couple of Mandarins I added not sure if the carpet anemone got them
and a couple of recently added anthias a third one was missing last week.

Escaped a near disaster when one day talking to afellow reefer I told him that I somehow felt something wasn't Ok with the tank ( was on my second week away and was supposed to spend a 3rd week before coming home) so he passed to my parents home where the tank is and found everything looking fine in the tank. Luckily he opened the stand and saw both skimmers overflowing non stop. he dialed them down a bit and that stopped the overflow. Luckily nothing Happened to the tank from the waste that was discharged in it. I changed my flight schedule and came back for 2 days and made a large waterchange and a changed my carbon.... Still don't know the cause of the overflow, no overfeeding, nothing was dropped in the tank and nothing had died, all corals were looking Ok, my best theory was that some coral had spawned maybe, or is that just wishfull thinking.
another tragedy happened just after I went home, when I woke up to find my red millepora had fallen down broken my red monitpora and felt tips first in my clam rupturing the mantle. the clam had closed on the accro. the tissue was so torn that the clam was dead and I was able to pull out the accro. took the clam out and placed the broken parts of the mille on a rock and epoxied two large braches that had broken on the coral itself. luckily those started to encrust and that will fix the broken shape of the milllepora.
Also epoxied teh broken monti and it healed and already encrusted over the epoxy...
So so far I got lucky I would say.

Wooo hoooo 1000 Posts finally. this calls for a pics celebration:
so here goes a complete run down of the tank:

Soft Corals

Palys finally and some zoos finally starting to fill over the overflow

6-7 years old Green carpet growing non stop. not able to take the decision to take it out so most probably it'll stay in the tank till the upgrade.
