Marron Sex Help Needed!

It's nice to come aboard the forum!

I need some help here...

I got a Marron for 7 months now, alone in the tank and I dont know how old it had before I got It.

He Is arround 6cm long and is very red.

I read about that clownfish only get mature at 12-24months, so my question is if in this 7 months alone, did he became male then female ?

And what Iff I put another clowfish inside the tank, how long for him to change sex to dominant female, or to male if the other fish is bigger then him"female" ?

I would just assume its a female at this point.

U mean 6 inches? not 6 cm?

If you want to add a second maroon, Id add the smallest one you can find. A juvi, that will eventually become male. Hopefully it will submit to your existing maroon fast.

Maroons arent the easiest to pair up but dont let people scare you either. It isent that bad.

The best results Ive heard from people is to put a breeding container with the juvi inside as close to your females home as possible and let the female get used to it.

eventually let it out after she calms down ( a day or two maybe)

She will still beat up the juvi and it might get ugly. but dont pull the juvi out unless your sure its about to die without intervention.


I followed the box method and it worked quite well

Hi everyone, thanks for the reply.

The marron has 6 centimeters i guess its still a male ? or perhaps hes not even mature and sexless yet for being alone ?

I read marron can get to 16cm so this is pretty big for my aquarium, i hope he doesnt grow anymore!
