An RC staff member (Agu) closed the MARS election thread (titled MARS elections for 2007). Here's Doug's original post...

Brian,

Could you go over the conditions of write-in votes. I think that was mentioned before.

Thanks!

Karl

Brian,

There's a small update to your list:

Currently Nominated
President-- Brian Prestwood
VP --- Bruce Azzarito
Public Relations---Mandy Black and Justin (whatever his last name is)
Treasurer---?? Open
WebMaster---Sheila Black
Secretary-- ?? Open
Board of Governors- Douglas Lee & Trina Lee

I was wondering what happens if a position remains unfilled. Would Justin or Mandy consider one of the other unfilled position?

To answer Alex's question, yes, Mandy is Amanda, My daughter. She doesn't have her RC handle but she will need to get one if she works with the BOD.
Lee and I will have the by-laws there at the next meeting. It would be good to go over the election processes with the club members before commencing with the nominations. We do have an unprecedented election this time, with BOD positions open that would not usually be elected at this time.
Hopefully we will have a strong turnout and lots of candidates.

Sheila

If there's a position for powerless figurehead monarch with no responsibilities whatsoever, I'm in. King of MARS. I like the sound of that.

In all seriousness I admire you guys for your effort and dedication to the club, the hobby, and the education of us, the hobbyist. Thanks for all your hard work, all board members, past and present, and everyone who has helped out with the clubs/events/swaps. :D Although it's been far too long since I've been to a meeting I always take away something valuable. (edit: and I don't mean that time I cleaned up on the raffle :P)

Regards,
Matt Wandell.

whom ever ends up winning the PR posistion it would be more than my pleasure to share with them what i learned during my time spent as the PR person.
Good luck!~)

Thanks Sheila, its kind of annoying when threads get closed before I get my answers...must be a sign.
are Doug and Trina running against each other? I hope not otherwise that would make for an interesting ride home for them... :) Good luck to everyone!

Alex - there are two board of governors positions. :D

I just hope I don't get an annoying phone call at 6:30 AM reminding me to vote for a specific candidate. I voted for another person just because I was ****ed at the person who made the automated call. :P

Public Relations---Mandy Black and Justin (whatever his last name is)

You mean to tell me all those countless minutes we shared as our bodies glistened in the hot sun and the eye contact we made as we held the fish stand and with every fiber in our being muscled it into your car?You dont even know my last name?

:lol2:

but there are still two positions that we need people to come forward and put their name in the ring. Don't wit until the last minute, you may not get a chance to be on a new board.

Also, if you don't vote, you don't have room to complain. So please try to make it to this months meeting. Not only do you get to vote on the next group of people to lead our club, the speaker is fine too.

It would be nice to see the standing room only meeting like I have seen in the past.

I can't make to this months meeting. Do we have any absentee ballots? ;-)

Good luck to all the candidates. It sounds like it's going to be a great new BOD.

Bruce, Minh - The actual elections do not take place until December IF there is more than one person running for a position.

November is the official nomination meeting.

Bruce

Contrary to what I said, I think Robert is right.

I can't find the bylaws on the MARS website. The website I keep the bylaws on is down and RC deleted the thread I posted them on.

If anyone has an electronic copy of the bylaws would you please post them on this thread.

Article VII â€"œ Election of Officers and Governors

Section A - Election of Officers and Governors shall be held every odd numbered year.

Section B Candidates for election to either an Officer, or Board of Governors position, or any person being considered for appointment to an open Board of Governors position must have been a member in good standing for a period of at least six (6) months.

Section C - The President must appoint a nominating committee at the October board meeting of an Election year, comprised of not less than three (3) members including a Chairperson of that committee. This committee shall meet and select candidates for the Officers and Governors to be presented to the membership at the November general membership meeting.

At the November general membership meeting, the chairperson shall present the candidates to the membership. The President shall call for nominations from the floor. If there are no opposing candidates from those presented by the nominating committee, a vote shall take place. If there is more than one candidate for any of the offices, voting shall take place during the December general membership meeting. Nominations from the floor, if any, shall be made by persons who have been members in good standing for a period of at least six (6) months.

Section D - Voting may be verbal, by hand, or by secret ballot, but if two or more candidates are nominated, the vote shall be made by secret ballot. The candidate with the highest number of votes shall be declared elected by the President. In the event of a tie, the President shall call for another vote (run-off) until one person is elected.

I may be interested in the secretary position, I must talk to my wife first as this would affect us both and the family.

I will let you know....

I am afraid that my inexperiance will show and I will need help, but I would be more than willing to take on the Treasure position should the members approve.
