MARS Club Survey

I really want to thank you all for sharing your thoughts. A different location is something that the Board has discussed several times. If anyone has a spot to suggest, please let me know. Let's see what we can do to find a location that will work for a greater portion of the Sacramento area.

I used to attend all meetings until I moved to Auburn and just moved to Loomis and was thinking of rejoining but if it were to be further towards Sac I wouldn't be capable of making it. I used to love the topics and the people. I loved the all around educational experience provided by guest speakers I used to do the raffle for fun and agree that diversification of topics would appeal to a larger crowd. If the meetings were not monthly that would cause attrition in my opinion. Just my 2 cents. Oh and Saturdays I work in finance so making weekdays is almost impossible.

One of the issues that came up back in the day with moving the meeting was that members needed it to be a place that served food since too many were coming straight from work. This limited the choices...

Moving the meeting to say a Saturday evening would eliminate the need for food and also the excuse that traffic during the Fri rush hour was an issue. No matter where the meetings are held, they will always be too far for someone.

How many meetings have you attended over the past year?

I have only missed one I think.

What are the reasons you don't attend meetings?

I enjoy communicating with other reefers and aquarists. I also really like raffles and enjoy hearing talks on various topics from other experienced reefers.

Location
Date of Meeting (3rd Friday of the month)

I do Attend and I don't really mind the long drive from Davis to Folsom, however I HATE the traffic especially on Fridays.

Topic of meeting

All have been good some great or amazing.

If Location is a factor, what area of Sacramento would you prefer?

Location is not a factor for me not attending, although I do believe it is a factor for several not attending. Unfortunately, no matter where the meeting are held it is always going to be farther for someone. Example Downtown would be farther for Auburn and El Dorado Hills. Roseville or Citrus Heights would be farther for Elk Grove. It could be my misconception but It seems that there are a lot of reefers in the Elk Grove area. I think some location closer to 50 x 99 near UC Davis would be better. Or even Rancho cordova area off the highway.

If Date of Meeting is a factor, is there another day of the week that is preferred?

I feel that traffic could be hugely alleviated if the meetings were held on a different day of the week. Everyone would not have to worry about getting off work and to the meeting on time. It would also fix the Friday traffic problem.

If you've not been interested in the Topic, what would you like to hear about?

Curious if people would like to hear multiple different short topics at one meeting vs on in depth topic? This could appeal to both beginners, intermediate and advanced aquarists,

1. DBTC ( Don't Break the Chain) section added to the marineaquarist.org website.

2. Natural Disaster Issues: How to mitigate. All pertaining to aquariums example earthquakes flood or extended power outages.

3. All About Automation all the different ways you can automate your tank and how people have made tank maintenance easier especially DIY.

4. Tips, Tricks, and Tools of the Trade. All the various things people have found to help them make the hobby easier on them and their wallet.

5. Fish food recipes and how to make.

If you're at a meeting and do not purchase raffle tickets, is it due to: Poor selection on the raffle table?

N/A I buy $20 or more at every raffle.

Other? Please specify.

N/A

Do you think it's time to cut back on the number of monthly meetings? If so, how often should we meet?

No that would be giving up.

Any other comments or suggestions?

Without a doubt I want to see more Grow out contests amongst the club. I don't care if it's an expensive coral or cheap coral. I find it to be very fun to participate or watch. We could have some stricter rules when there are more expensive slower growing corals with bigger prizes for rewards. We could also have some much more laid back rules with smaller prizes.

Bringing this back up so people that had not chimed in could. We have taken a lot of the suggestions and made as many of them as we could happen. The biggest one we are still working on as a board is location. If you have any ideas for something closer to Downtown right off some of the major freeways please send me a message email or text.
