This is a perfect opportunity to help the club & express your
view of where the club will be in 2007.

OK club members. Now is the time to step up and help support your club. We need people to step up and help keep this club running smooth. We need more people to step up and run for these offices. Lets give our members a choice. This is your opportunity to make your ideas known and to try them out.

It would be nice to see several names for each position available.

Im confused about the public relations slot, at the meeting it sounded as though her term is not yet up. Or is she resigning?

Pam was the PR. The by-laws say that the president appoints a temp from a remaining board member to full the spot until next time it comes up (next year), but because there were so few board members left to fill empty spots, it is up for election for a one year term this time.

So refresh my memory, please: who will be returning from the current board, if any? I'm sure these are all fine folks, and my thanks to them for volunteering to give their valuable time, but I'm a little concerned about continuity and institutional memory. Of course, maybe some of them have been around since before I came on the scene early last year.

I'll step up and give Mandy Black some healthy competition :)
Please accept my candidacy for Public Relations.

Anyone else interested in Webmaster? I just did some content updates (thanks for posting them Minh!) I'm glad to help out with content if a web geek steps up.

Now that is what I am talking about. Thanks Justin for throwing your hat in the ring for a position. We have something like over 100 people in our club. We should have several candidates for each position. This way no one can call the board a click. We need a good mix of people willing to give it their best to keep MARS a fabulous club.

Like with all volunteer organization, it seems like the same people are always doing all the work. With more people willing to help, the easier it will be for everyone. Also, with more people helping, the more things we can do as a club.

Thanks to the out going board members. You did a great job and I know pulling off WMC2006 was no walk in the park. We all owe you a great deal of thanks.

You knows. maybe a fresh start with all new board member will pump some new energy into our meetings. I am looking forward to the change, even if I don't win the Vice Pres office.

Well said Bruce. Many times I hear about how people are dissatisfied with the way the club is ran, but when it's time for a change, the people complaining are no where to be found. Thanks to everyone who's volunteered so far, and good luck.

Election 2007

FYI: I am glad that there are some New Volunteers for the Mars
leadership. I will be putting the names of all those interested on a ballot for the Nov. meeting. I will add anyone who seeks
to run for office at the Nov. meeting & write ins are welcome.

As for me, Douglas, I am going for Board of Gov. position.
I was the Librarian before Karen & enjoyed working to improve the club.
For those who don't know me, I am "New" ,(4 years),
to saltwater, before that I into freshwater aquariums.
I have been active in the Sacramento Aquarium Society for about 23 years, with the last 12 years as an Officer or BoG position,
which I may run for again this Year.

I want Mars to be the best Saltwater club on the West Coast.

Hi All

Doug, thanks for posting this. Since we've got contended positions and empty positions I'd be prepared for two voting cycles at the next meeting. If someone doesn't win their first choice they may choose to run for another position.

Fred - Contintuity has always been a problem. That's why the board offset the election cycle of half the positions. I'm a returning board member. I've been VP and Webmaster. Karen is continuing as librarian and has been secretary before. I believe she was on the board when I joined MARS in 98. Doug has been librarian. He's returning as a Governor.

Assuming the board approves, I'd like to (elected or not) set up a board member website to track all club records. New board members won't have to figure out how to track club records nor search for existing records. They will be available on the board member website. The downside is that new board members will have to learn to use an existing system instead of setting it up their way. I think continuity is the higher priority.

I see that two critical positions, treasurer and secretary, are still open. In the past, these positions have required much more work than was necessary because we used our website technology poorly. Once the financial and membership records are online these jobs will be much easier. Given the chance, I will make that happen.

Bruce - I'm with you, I'd like to see mutiple candidates for each position. If you run, the worst you could do is lose. At least you tried. Not running when you wanted to is a bigger loss. I am glad you are running for VP. Doug, good to see you returning. New board member candidates, good job.

I think good things are yet to come for our club. There are some very talented and capable people out there. We just need to make them feel the need to contribute. I challenge everyone to run for a position they have ever thought about doing.

We need you. We may even have a lot of fun doing it.

I sure hope you know what your getting your self into to! The last 2 PR people have been ousted!

No I dont to be honest with you. But Im prepared and willing to find out. I just know that Im pretty outgoing, personable, and ready to get my hands wet ;)
Not knowing what the job intails, but by the title alone; knowing myself, seems to make sense to me and thought I would/could be good at it.
