MARS spring Crap Swap planning

Hola MARS members!

Its spring time, and that means its time to clean out those garages and closets for the MARS annual springtime Crap Swap! This event brings reefers from all around to swap and sell their used (but not used up) reef crap - pumps, lights, bulbs, supplements, etc. With all the FS posts, I figured you all are chomping at the bit to get this show on the road.

In helping with the planning to take to the Board for approval, I want to solicit your thoughts and ideas on:

1) Location - We will need large parking lot centrally located with shaded trees would be nice. Bathroom access a must! Think Denios with upgrades...
2) Date - Lets shoot for April/May time frame. Saturday would be great, so any dates simply not good (kids spring break, annual Star Trek convention in town, etc. etc.)?
3) Food - We are open here, but you know how I love BBQs!

We are only in the initial planning stages, so help us help you - pour the ideas in!

Funny you should mention that... I am literally on the phone with parks and rec for McKinley Park now.

Woohooo!!! I have nothing to sell or trade at this point, but am looking to set up my 55 next.....so maybe buy buy buy??? LOL
I'd love to help on ideas for location....but I'm not familiar with anyplace but Rocklin.

saturday and parks?? it maybe flooded with people. just a thought. how about the parking lot of reef hermit since there is only his shop in the complex. There are benches and such inbetween buildings providing shade. 0.02 cents

Looking forward to it! Didn't sell much, but got some awesome deals in trades. Amazing how much junk one can accumulate in this hobby.

I think this years' will be much better than last. Its not mid summer (yay!) and we are hoping to find a much more accessible location and facilities. John at Your Reef was kind enough to allow us to use the alley behind his store last year.

Keep the ideas coming all... As always, it is very appreciated and needed.

Its not so much the actual places to meet being big enough or having the accomodations we need, as it is getting the green flag (and permit) from the City for the use of those places to host a massive reef geek yard sale. I am trying to see what I can get from Parks and Rec - but yes, a park was my first thought as an ideal location.

Viva el Crap Swap? Ha!

Last year, Paul and I really brought out the crap - my truck fully loaded with all kinds of goodies we had picked up through this trade and that and at prices that were just as ridiculous. Who was the poor suck... I mean, esteemed customer, who ended up with that Brute filled with fluorescent Aquarium bulbs for like $5? hehe... good times! :D

yeah thats a nice little park.

And centrally located too! If you include Reno...

:D

Loomis Park

Loomis Park

I agree Loomis park would be great...but...Little league fills both sides up bigtime during spring/summer. Orangevale Park and Rec? Just a recommendation. If they don't have any events going that day it has a huge lot that is often used for "yard sale" events. Not saying it's best location...just what I know.

Would a school blacktop/ fields work? Basketball courts and soccer/FB field for the kids. Only would have to pay a couple of hours to the custodian to clean the restrooms. Or if it's in the budget, possibly the mutipurpose room for swap? More in custodial cost for that, but it'd be indoors and tons of lunch tables to put stuff out.
