I have what appears to be copepods in my tank. I have thousands of these guys on my sand bed and on the back of my tank. I've red that these are harmless but how do reduce their numbers? Whenever my MH are on I can see tons of white specs on my back drop, which was sprayed black.

thanks

It is my understanding that this is a good thing! my tank recently had an outbreak of these as well for the first time, at first i was mad at the LFS for selling me some hitchiker pest after the last mushrooms I bought from them LOL.

the popultation will go down on its own without a mandarin goby, A mandarin should only be put in a well established tank.

That a good point.. Once the Mandarin finishes off all the pods it could starve..

I think pods population always balance themselves out in a tank.. (I think, could be wrong)

i will start by saying im not sure what you are seeing are in fact copepods. they are pretty much impossible to see on the sandbed. if they are in fact copepods, yes they will bloom at first then as their food supply deminishes, so will they. then they balance out.

take a look here, and make sure what you are seeing are in fact copepods. www.melevsreef.com/id
