mass dosing nanno phytoplankton?

Am I the only one that has mass dosed nano phytoplankton into the display aquarium?

has anyone else mass dosed while being able to control inorganics?

just curious because I plan on duplicated my last smaller experiments but on a coral prop tank with high ends and want to know other people's success stories

thanks

I have dosed more than a recommended amount of home made phyto (30ml in my 30g daily) for a few months now and have noticed a few spots of cyano starting to accumulate. I thinks this is due to the fertilizer used to culture the phyto and not the actual plankton. I have seen a thread where an excess of phyto caused it proliferate in the aquarium and caused the water to go pea green.

I think the phyto alone inside your tank providing it was low in nutrients to begin with should consume the excess nutrient's and grow slightly and then the consumer's of phyto should kick in and consume the phyto it is a fine balance

has anyone been able to balance phyto?

I'm asking because I was able to balance it and just want to see if I am the only one?

was wondering were you using a protien skimmer?

I'm not using a skimmer and find that it enhances phyto in the display

my main reason to ask is to ask about if dandro or pods or mandarin's might benifit with this procedure amoung other things like christmas tree worms etc ?

I have doesd my tank with live nanochloropsis. I never add culture directly to the tank. I centrifuge 1 liter and then wash and resuspend with SW and refrigerate it. I add a few mls of this every few days. Since centrifuges are not readily availble you may want to try turning the air off for a few hours, allowing the culture to settle, remove the upper layer to start another culture and the resuspend/ dilute the concentrated bottom layer in SW.

Main reason for asking is that I already dosed 1 cup per 20G

and want to know if other's are pleased with the result's?

it's just that this will be my last experiment before I process the last of the 2 long term result's in the experiment's that I just wanted to know if anyone has duplicated to a "t" 1 cup per 20G daily?

I'll finish my last experiment over the next 6 months and post the result's it is good to know no one has done this but at the same time it seems so simple that I would of thought it would of already been done by now

WHat do you have in the tank? Must be a lot of consumers of phyto. 1 cup/ 20 gallons is enough to inoculate the tank to create a tank full of algal culture. What species are you growing?

I used to dose about 2 cups/day of home grown nano/iso in my 240G display w/ 375G sump. I stopped dosing all together because I was getting nasty bubble algae outbreak and corals browning up. I think it was the phosphates leftover from the fertilizers maybe. I used miracle grow. I also never really saw any tangible benefit from the phyto regimend over the year.

Miracle Grow might get phyto to grow, but it will be pretty poor nutritiously. Might have had better results using proper Guillards media.
