Master electronic 1073.090 rather loud

It should not be loud. Can you explain the noise further? A loud hum? A chatter? We have sold 8 of these pumps but only received 2 noise complaints, the other pump should be back here next week so I can investigate the cause and give a better answer. I asked at the factory and they said that the German pumps have not had this problem but the US version is constructed differently so it is possible it is something they don't know about. They asked if you had opened it, because the shaft is extremely easy to break when it is opened, it has a ceramic shaft and a great deal of force is required to overcome the seal on the pump cover and if you pull to a side the shaft is broken, that was the only cause they could think of. Can you live with it for a week so I can get a definitive answer from testing the one which is being returned?

Thanks for the quick reply. The noise is difficult to describe, definitely not a hum. More like a chatter or screek. I have not opened the pump and it is brand new. I can easily wait for a week. Luckily we sleep far enough from the pump

OK, I have received the pumps back. From what I am seeing their were two problems, first, the shaft was broken, I think the guy opened it and broke it, you have to be extremely careful opening it. Second, their was a chip in the ceramic bearing that causes a screaching noise. The impellers have two rings of ceramic inside them that if chipped drag on the shaft. I want to do a wet test to be sure I have found the problem but so far it seems pretty simple. I need to find an 1.5" bulkhead so i can rig up a test station so give me a couple more days to have a conclusion.

Do you know whether anybody has tried to use this pump with the AquaC EV-400 skimmer? (http://www.proteinskimmer.com/products/EV400.htm)
They recommend any of the following pumps:

It should be far more powerful as it has a much greater head pressure. The Gen X Mak4 is a pump I have used many times and it is probably half the flow considering pressure rating. However, the restriction down to 3/4" could be a problem, I really can't answer how much of an effect that would have but logic would suggest if the pump can pump up almost 10ft and produce as much flow as a Gen X at 0ft, the effect should be minimal. In my tests I tried to cover the outlet with my hand and the flow had so much pressure I could not cap it with my hand.
