Mate for C. interrupta

I think wih your track record breeding the reefing community should start some donations to get you a female. After all its time we support captive breeding and give a little back. Let me know, I gotta $100 on it.

I remember hearing that the tank breed interrupta's color was not as good as wild so a hybrid will be more interesting

Maybe you should get a project going on kickstarter? I bet you could find enough of us to contribute and maybe consider the money each pays as a deposit on a future CB interruptus?

Whatever Paka decides is cool with me but efforts shouldn't be limited due to funds. We need to get the cause supported one way or another.

I don't think that's necessarily true. I've owned a pair from Franks's last CB brood and I think they look just as good as my current wild pair. Judge for yourself:

RCT CB Interrupta pair (sorry about the poor picture quality, pic was taken in like 2005):

Oh yeah, and you can count me in for a donation too. I think it'd be a great project and contribution for our hobby. Actually, if you can sex my current wild pair, I may even lend it out for breeding purposes as this may be the most cost effective method. However, she may need to be grown out for awhile as both of mine are still relatively small.

Brett - wonderful idea. I would definitely love to donate to this cause.

Paka - do you think you can get these fish from spawn to retail in a good time frame? I'm sorry but aside from the video on the wantanabei, I can't find much info on your work. Would love to know more.

WOW!!! You are all amazing and I'm glad there is this kind of support for captive bred fish!

I would love to be involved in this both in making a donation and being the person at the receiving end of it would be unbelievable.

I want to be up front with everyone and here are some of my immediate thoughts/concerns.
-In looking at the fish on DD I'm thinking it feels fairly safe since it says it's been in Kevin Kohens tank for a couple of months, but $3000 is a lot of money.
-I think Fabio would fall head over heels for that fish but she also has to like Fabio.
-I've had potters and flames spawn at that size but I don't know if an interrupta, being one of the larger Centropyge, would spawn at that size. I can look into that question.
- I would hope that within a year the fish would spawn and I would be successful at rearing them but it could certainly take longer.
- The first few successful batches will most likely yield only a couple of juveniles.

If this were to become a reality it would certainly be a dream come true for me. I would try my very best at spawning and raising Fabio and his new mate and I'd be happy to share the information perhaps on a thread here or one of the breeding sites or an online power point. I would also like to give back in some way. Maybe a free drawing for the first interrupta raised or something like that. Any other ideas on that?

THANK YOU!
Karen

Karen,
What if we did a drawing? $100 a ticket and entries go in a drawing for a shot at one of the first reared fish. With an understanding that there's a chance it won't happen of coarse, not that I don't have the faith :). I would totally buy it for you outright if I was a wealthier man.

kickstarter or indiegogo are good, but getting the page out to the audience is difficult. A friend of mine and I started an indiegogo awhile back but got nothing. We started it so both of us could get small breeding set ups (2-3 pairs of fish, larval, and growout tanks). :(

I'm now paying out of pocket, but something like interrupta would be something I'd look at going to something like Kickstarter for.

Whatever way you decide to go, I'm in. I'd love to follow the progress with a vested interest.

Cool discussion! You breed latz clownfish yeah? Any pictures of your tank setups?

Will Kevin ship to Hawaii? I have asked LA before but they always said no, including Kevin himself. But since this is a special project I think there would be an exception. Of course I would love Live Aquaria to ship to Hawaii regularly, within reason of course all legal organisms, like fish and freshwater stuff. Not too hard, FedEx overnight is not that expensive, Blue Zoo can ship here, so I always wondered why LA doesn't.

I like this idea and I'd like to add to it that each person would get $100 off the price of an interrupta or bandit that I raise so that everyone gets their money back in the end. And yes there is a chance I won't be successful since anything can happen with fish along the way but I will do my best.

I guess the next step is to make sure that Live Aquaria will ship to Hawaii. We do need to have an import permit and I can purchase that. I will also meet the fish at the airport FedEx and that should make things smooth and easier for Live aquaria. I will try to get Kevin Kohen's contact info and speak with him directly.

I'll also check out kickstarter since I'm not familiar with that.

Thanks again to all of you!! I hope we can make this work.

I think this is a great idea. One question that I have is how would you handle the discount if a person buys multiple tickets? Let's say I bought 5 tickets. Would I get $500 off my purchase?

Lastly, I'd like to see a list of committed names on this thread to make sure we have enough people before I lay down my money.

Good luck, Karen! If there's anyone who can do it, it's you! Have you received any tips from Frank B?

As a hobbyist with a passion for Centropyges and a long term goal of captive breeding myself please count me in on a donation to this effort as well. The information I have already learned from your research has been both an inspiration and pointed me in the right direction with my efforts.

Can someone fill me on what kick starter is? Also I'd love to read any research that's available if someone can provide a link. Im not a breeder at all but do find it to be interesting reading. Thanks
