Mate for C. interrupta

I might have missed it, but are you open to tours of your setup? I'm in Oahu for the week and would love to add your place to my list of places to see. Any suggestions for the reef/fish enthusiast? Waikiki aquarium is already checked.

Hi psidriven, I've sent you a pm with my email so that you can contact me directly. I have to giggle at "tours of your setup" because my set up is very small in my garage and so low tech and low budget. You can see everything while standing in one spot! I think most people are disappointed when they see it.

Waikiki Aquarium should certainly be number one on your list and then of course there is snorkeling or diving. There's lots of other non fishy fun stuff to do too.

Here's an update while we are still waiting for the next spawn from Fabio and Faith.

On Sunday evening I tried to introduce Jaws and Connie into Faith and Fabio's tank. It's 180 gallons, so plenty of space, overlapping temp requirements for interrupta and jocs, and Fabio has been fine with smaller angels as tank mates in the past. After acclimation Jaws swam out into the tank and was met instantly by Faith who proceeded to show him all the correct postures of a submissive female which in my experience leads to good broodstock pairs. (Faith has never displayed these postures to Fabio). It was quite cute since Faith is at least 4 times larger than Jaws is and it is her tank that he is moving into. Sweet mellow Fabio would have none of this and started chasing Connie, (who is less than a tenth of his size). I quickly removed Connie and it took me a little longer to get Jaws out since he was happily hiding with Faith in a pvc pipe. I am still amazed at this interaction and the attraction and acceptance between Jaws and Faith.
Currently Jaws and Connie are back together as if nothing happened and I have moved them into a different tank. Fabio and Faith are back to normal as well and I'm hoping for eggs around the new moon.
The flameback pair have been moved into a larger/taller tank since the male has been showing off with spawning dances every evening and I'm hoping we'll also get eggs from them soon.

This is a great thread. The first spawning event shows real promise for the future.

Unfortunately, I dropped onto this thread too late to join the kickstarter program but I wish you well in your efforts from this side of the pond.

I've had a solitary 3 inch Joc for 2 years. 3 weeks ago, I introduced a tiny 1 1/2 inch juvenile joc into the tank, and on Sunday a 2 inch interruptus.

All 3 are happily swimming around together in my 8 foot tank.

The original Joc was called Audrey (after Audrey Hepburn because of her beautiful eyes), but I have renamed it Aubrey and the called the new Joc Audrey instead. I'm a bit worried that I might cause the fish some gender issues and can't afford the psychiatric fees if I get it all wrong.

Assuming that the original Joc was female, do you think that she will become the male or will the ultimate size difference mean that the interruptus will become the male instead?

Jaws and Faith, sittin in a tree, K-i-s-s-i-n-g, first comes love, then comes marriage, then come some really cool hybrids!

I think you were right to rename your jocs since the larger one will most likely become the male and those psychiatric fees can get steep.
I'm not sure how the interrupta will fit in as she grows larger. I'm looking forward to hearing how that turns out.

humaguy and Rare Angels (and I know Yurivd would be included too)- I was tempted to keep Faith and Jaws together but this project is all about raising C. interrupta offspring from Fabio and Faith and I didn't want to take off in another direction. If we don't get more fertile eggs from Fabio and Faith over the next few months we can put Jaws and Faith back together. We still have funds left from the "A girlfriend for Fabio" page that we could purchase an additional female interrupta for Fabio and possibly another joc for Connie if that's the direction that people would like to see this go. I'd prefer not to rush into any changes since it would be great to get some juvy interrupta out there first.

I have to say that when Jaws had his brief encounter with Faith he reminded me of Fonze from Happy Days!

Too funny.

It is so interesting, you never can predict what fish are going to do. I can't believe Jaws and Faith made friends so quickly, and that Fabio went after Connie and not Jaws.
