Matrix (and siporax) questions, to keep from derailing Sahin's thread.....

It is peculiar that siporax needs to be imported from Europe through eBay as opposed to being provided by North American retailers. I have heard rumors of "counterfeit" siporax but I find it hard to imagine a $15 item used by such a limited group would be worth the effort of counterfeiting it. I purchased it twice, imported from Germany(I think) on eBay
 
I got mine from a US seller on eBay. If it was counterfeit they did a really good job

What's the point to counterfeit such low value item. The is no money to be made.

I am now up to about 10 Litres in my sump. I have close to 200G total system volume. I dump an insane amount of frozen food into my tank every day.... I no longer test for N+P at all so I have no idea of the values but I have zero nuisance algae and I clean my glass every 3-4 days currently.... I attribute it all to the siporax.
 
I have 50L coming from the UK, its the 25mm pond size. Would an egg crate made box work best or are there better options out there?
I was told the US suppliers would have the 25mm in 3 weeks. Not sure why the US has a hard time getting it in. This was from Sera themselves.

ive seen some third party companies make these and label as siporax. my 10L came in an actual siporax yellow tub.

It is still in shipping, I should it by the end of the week or Monday the 23rd is the delivery date by eBay. I am hoping its the real deal if not I will be asking for my money back. I found another seller I can us if I need to. I can not see how 50L will be in a zip lock bag, I would guess that is for the smaller amounts that are not normal quantities.

it only comes in 10L or 50L so the other quantities they offer would have to ship different. Not sure how to tell if its real.

I found my 15ml size hard to stack n eggcrate. It would just fall out. So I just dumped them into the eggcrate.

Yeh I'm not sure how to tell the difference. Mine sure does break easily though.

Your first link prices are hard to beat. Whose this other seller if u don't mind sharing?
 
If you stack them you have now room to fit more. If you don't is less siporax. Imagine you bin. You stack this in there nicely it fits more, if you just toss all the toys in it may not fit as much.

You can contact Sera to check if a particular seller has purchased bulk Siporax. The issue is that if it is not sold in original packaging you will probably receive less than you ordered. This happened to me with an EBay seller.

What occurs is that when repackaged it is not measured correctly. It needs to be split up by weight and not 1 liter scoops. I received closer to 10L when I ordered 15L.
 
I took my 15mm siporax out of the sump stack it and found tons of dead star fish, any ideas why?

My package left New Jesery yesterday heading to me in Ohio, should have the 25mm in a few days. I plan to check the weight of it to make sure I get the correct amount.
I am looking for the second seller that had good prices but I can not find it now, I thought I marked them.
 
Weird u have those deaths..

The first link u posted on ebay had really good prices. Half of what I paid for my 10L.

I want to try the 25mm and maybe stack the smaller 15mm inside. It'll be easier to stack In the eggcrate.

The guy I talked to at Sera said they've never encountered a counterfeit but didn't dismiss the possibility.
 
I bought from the Austrian guy, it came in clear bags but that's just because he's buying it in bulk quantities and dividing it up. I had to handle it for a while stacking it and it's definitely made of glass, it's almost like handling insulation after a while.
 
Im still not sure how siporax and the associated bacteria deals with phosphates. Is it simply reducing phosphates by approximating redfield ratio with nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria consumption. As nitrates are reduced by siporax and the associated bacteria inhabiting its pores, is the phosphate reduced approximately 1:16

Or is something different going on
