Fill a liter and measure it.

Not sure how they measure a liter, is it stacked or loose? It seems weight is a better tool to measure the product since it isn't a liquid.

I contacted Sera, they're saying their 10L version weighs 2.9kg. So I was shorted by 5L at least by that math.
 
I don't think a company would take the time to stack a bulk produced product like this. Good luck with your dispute.

I got my siporax from zooshop-willner on EBay.

Below is the reply from the USA Sera representative regarding my question about weight:

"The original pack sizes of sera siporax are 500 ml (5.1 oz.), 1,000 ml (10.2 oz.), 10 l (6.4 lb.) and 50 l (32 lb.) containers."
 
Would the siporax do better in a higher oxygen area?? Saw this video and it made me wonder.

That is depend what you want to reduce.
On the video Siporax working as filter to covert amonia =>nitrite=>Nitrate.
My assumption is that on the video filter for large fish load.
To convert nitrates to nitrogen needs low aerobic zone , Siporax have to keep on low water flow with low oxygen level.
 
The low O2 areas are obtained due to the pore size. The water that flows around is reach in O2, come from our tanks, that are reach in O2. But as its slow down during the transit and enter the pores, the O2 is reduced/consumed. That favors the growth of anaerobic Bacterias that will reduce NO3.
 
I thinking of running some in a reactor with a pre filter on the pump to help keep the detritus out. That way I could control contact Time on the media

I have 4 media reactor set up in that way. But, I have the sponges in the pump to avoid the pump be blocked with Macro Algae small pieces. They are in my fuge full of Macro.

Why the big worry over detritus accumulation and clogging the media?? If the media is populated with bacteria, wouldn't they be able to break down any and all organic material given enough time? Does anybody have experience with matrix or siporax clogging and losing efficiency?
 
I have a internal corner overflow box. Can I place the media in a mesh bag and place it in the overflow chamber? I have one drain and one return PVC pipe running through this area.

Or would it be better to run in an external reactor?

Chances are it's going to be a magnet for detritus if you do that, I wouldn't recommend it. You don't need a reactor, I have some in my sump in an egg crate box, but you should have some way of taking care of detritus before it reaches them. For me they're in the last section of my sump raised up a few inches, so the middle section catches most of the detritus and the rest stays on the floor of the sump instead of going through the cylinders.
