Matt's 225g Dream Build

Waiting at the dealership for an oil change so I figured it was a good time to get caught up on my progress. It was driving me nuts that the bottom of the plywood that the tank sits on wasn't painted so I went ahead and took care of that.

Plumbing came together well. I don't know how many hours I say on the floor in front of the tank moving stuff around and dry fitting different configurations. Finally found one that worked and I liked. I had bought colored fittings to match but as I was installing them I noticed hairline cracks in most of them. Shortly after I learned they are not pressure rating and just furniture grade so I went with all white schedule 40 fittings. For the fittings on the black return lines I did tape off the pipe and paint them with KRylon. I left some for white contrast.

Initially I thought about having a extra hole drilled when I designed the tank for easy water changed but scrapped the idea. I didn't want a bulkhead low in the tank that could possibly leak. Instead I decide to T off one of my return lines to drain the tank for water changes. I added a valve down below by the return pump that I can close so it won't back siphon into the sump instead I can open the other drain and siphon down the water level to whatever depth I set the return line in the water.

Originally I was going to hard plumb everything but trying to fit all these drain lines and avoid 90 degree fittings I decided against it. I found black flex PVC that fits with the look I'm going for. Really happy how everything is turning out.

You know this is almost to pretty to put smelly fish water in....

I think you just gonna have to keep it dry..

Awesome Job.......

Plumbing is done after trying multiple configurations I finally settled on this. Really happy with how it looks.

came out great.. love the red/black/white theme. Would love to hear a review on the vertex media reactor once its all up and running.

Great build. Very clean. If you don't mind, I have one question regarding your lighting. I just ordered the ATI Sunpower (48" w controller) and I will be doing the same thing you did with the Reef Brite LED stripps. My question is, are your Reef Brites the XHO or Tech model? The reason i'm asking is, I want to order the XHO model but they don't seem to come with the bracket that will attache to the ATI fixture.

mattr777, I think I have the answer to my original question. I do however would like to ask you another if you don't mind. What color Reef Brite LED fixture did you get. Was it the blue, white or 50/50?

I went with the Reef Tech Blue. I didn't think I needed the XHO with an 8 bulb fixture already. I would have to look at the mounts for the XHO but they are probably just and L bracket of some sort like the tech and they line up close to perfect with the ATI fixtures.

Thanks. Will definitely give a review and hope to actually do a short review on all the components I used.

Thanks for the response mattr777. Have you had the fixture (ATI with the Reef Brites) over your tank yet and if so, are you happy with the look?

Well I have a 6 bulb tech light with reefbrites on my 90g and a 4 bulb ATI with rapidleds I did myself on a small frag tank. LEDs are strictly for the blue pop. Fixture looks nice with them mounted. Obviously you don't get the control of a radion or Hydra but the growth and color from the T5s make up for it. I had switched from T5s to Hydras and then went back to the t5 on my 90.
