Matt's 5000ltr Display

Your fish appear very "bluish". Is that your lighting or the camera set-up?

What a great build thread you have here. Don't know how I missed it over the years.
One problem maybe you can help with.
I am only on page 22 and all the pics are missing from photobucket now. I tried to continue reading but it's just not the same without your great illustrations.

Hi Matt
Nice pictures, the fish look very happy and well fed. Now you have sorted out the coral problem, bring on the putty and get those frags in :D
What about some nice collections of hammer coral ?

Cheers Martin

Nice mix of fish Matt and glad you figured out the problem with the SPS.

Sorry Brett I missed this. Thank you

Hi Martin ... I've added about 40 corals over the last couple of days... There is still a way to go though. I will be having lps but it will be sps dominant.

That's one awsome tank congrats

Thank you

Just got caught up Matt back from a few years ago...so much progress has been made, congrats! As others have mentioned can't wait to see a proper FTS and see how your tank looks as you look at it every day. Also it would be neat to see your DSB and other tanks in action. :-)

Cheers!

Holy smokes Matt.... I spent all day reading your thread and was only on page 25 when i realized that there was 47 pages and was like awesome im going to get to see the finished product. And let me tell you i was not let down at all by your magnificent build... You sir have truly single handly given people hope that you can do it yourself. I am just astonished at how well you did everything thing and that perseverance does pay off. I can understand the long work days I had a job that was like that. I am starting the planning stages of building a giant tank about the same volume as yours just different footprint. But now that might change since my eyes have opened to the idea of a fiberglass tank.. Might be emailing you with some ideas if you dont mind. Please keep the images and updates coming.

This is very cool. I am amazed by how detailed your planning was. Very impressive!

Thank you McPuff

Thanks seattlereef..I will try and find some time to sort out an update soon. I've been busy adding corals now I've figured out the iodine so the fts will look a little happier

Thanks so much thatcher for your kind words. Originally I was set to build a glass tank, it would have had to be smaller just due to access. It was a friend of mine who suggested fibre glass and I must say I love it. I can climb on top of the tank because it's fibreglass so access is good everywhere, therefore the tank is deeper than it would have been and the front to back is greater than I would have had with a glass tank. By all means fire over and questions you have, I'd be happy to help if I can

Matt, just wondering, how do you manage to glue frags to a roc work? do you dive into the tank? or it's possible from the top of the tank?

hope your sps will be great from now on :)

Michael

Hi michael.. I use a mix of both techniques. I can access everywhere from above and reach it with long tongs but some corals are just easier to fix when in the tank. It is a pita getting in and out and will become impossible to do as coral stock increases though.

I dropped into an LFS yesterday and my timing was great. They were just about to unpack an sps shipment so i thought i would save them the effort and buy them all...

Crappy pics taken with my phone while I was dipping them, but you get the idea....
