OK, this is a great build thread!

Question: your issues with the stand height being too low on the stock stand, and possibly too high at 33 inches on your custom, what would you have done differently?

My stand is under construction and I went with 32 inches for basically the same tank. Should I back it off and go with 31? Is the issue that you can't open the canopy all the way? Or that you have to put on a scuba mask and stand on a ladder to reach the back, bottom of the tank?

Thanks Matt!!!

Both! I think 30 or 31 would be a good height. It depends on how your looking at the tank, from a chair or from standing... I like walking up to my tank and staring at it, but I also like gazing at it when I relaxing in the living room sofa. The low stand in the shop might have been better next to a chair, but when standing next to it I would have to crouch down low... I'm sitting next to it now and 2 or 3 inches lower would be ideal. With the canopy it was just chance it didn't open all the way with my ceiling height, when we built it we never intended on it flipping up like that. If it was able to flip over I would have flipped it then slid it back 6 inches to the wall. Originally the very top of the canopy was supposed to crop up, but reaching down over the 15in canopy then the 27in tank depth... How does your canopy open up? I thought about actually putting a winch in the attic and running a cable through the ceiling to hoist it up... My wife, for some reason, doesn't like that idea...

I just remeasured... I think 31-32 would be good. 30 would be a little low for standing.
